Your personal opinion, however strong and altruistic, is not a substitute for giving payment information in a commonly accepted format. Admittedly, this is about that same level of functionality as possible with a dual SIM adapter without its problems. In-between the two front grills, rests the 5.

Sorry for any misinformation. Yes more detail is incoming, but for now: Well I think I'm sold, I'm due for a new phone and need a dual sim and need to plan for the 2g shut down. One plus one mobile price in india and features You gotta be kidding me. So far the Asus ZenFone 3 Deluxe seems to be the closest, I don't know if 3g on the second sim has been confirmed.

The phone is quite hefty with the mod so I only put it on from time to time at the end of a heavy use day, and usually that's just for half an hour before I go to sleep. It seems to be the best Android phone at the moment.

Anything to sub for the Note 7? Thanks for thr feedback, I read on here someone said the maps dont rotate with thr direction you are going as there is no built in compass. I'm not fussed, it's easy enough for the person at the other end to rotate it. If you're after dual sim, and Australian warranty — then local would be the best bet. 23.01.2018 - What happens if a phone doesn't support B28? What Facebook's privacy policy allows may surprise you. I do believe that it will have this functionality soon but for now it is not working. I tend to use an Otterbox Defender for worry-free usage and would love to get a waterproof for added peace of mind. The thing to note is that it is a fairly high priced phone. They only pattern I was ever was able to discern was that Chinadroids were more likely to have fixed assignments. I think it's been pretty common in the past two years. Prior to that fixed assignment was more common.

It may be more prevalent amongst phones with MTK chipsets. It is prudent to check this on dual SIM active stand-by phones with differing band capabilities per slot. I'm coming from Nexus 5x so a similar performance level would be ideal.

Not listed in the Wiki. For now I'd be looking at the Taiwan import ZF3 5. Maybe the Redmi 4 if Xiaomi ever releases it. Soc means System on Chip. Looks like the Umi Plus Extreme might be first out of the box with the P20 http: The ZUK forums has good instructions for that.

Definitely standby 4G capable in both slots the nominate primary SIM gets 4G, the other gets 3G, but doesn't matter which slot you use. ZUI very iOS like, so unlikely to officially come into Au due to copyright, but works great for me as my primary is an iPhone.

But Telstra Blue Tick has other requirements as well. So unless they sell a dual SIM phone, none will have blue tick. Thanks for the reply's I currently have a samsung duos young and have to update 2G turned off soon.

I was hoping to find a dual sim replacement with better reception but not necessarily blue tick but still work in rural areas with reasonable coverage. I was hoping to find a dual sim replacement with better reception but not necessarily blue tick.

If a Telstra sold a blue tick dual sim phone the dual sim functionality would probably be disabled. One of the advantages of dual sim phones is having one sim for data and the other for calls to reduce how much you pay to the carriers.

Don't think any of them would sell dual sim phones for this reason so there will probably never be a blue tick dual sim phone. Vodafone had a dual sim phone a while back but they crippled it by disabling one of the sim slots.

Snapdragon is relatively new and was released at the same time as the better specced which does support it. Just 8 A53 chips like the lower end Mediatek's. In any event — the phone has some issues: And Vodafone shutdown date also announced www.

Anyone seen the Alcatel Idol 4 and 4S? Looks like good competitors to the Moto G4s, and a bit smaller which appeals to me. I couldn't find any mention on here, sorry if I missed it.

Also Blackberry have released a rebranded version of the same phone DTEK50 , but seems to have disabled the second sim slot and made it SD card only. Apart from the DTEK50 which is in the wild, I have actually seen an Alcatel Idol 4 for sale anywhere none on ebay for example although plenty of accessories.

Agree that hybrid slots are the devil incarnate, what point a dual SIM if you can't fully use both slots. Then I will revert to two seperate phones. Going to be no choice since my phone s need to be rugged ones due to the type of work environment.

Sadly it's not really possible to make the telco's keep 2g going except on Xmas Island if they've made commercial decisions based around the licensing requirements for the spectrum allocations and other factors.

I boycotted the Census and won but don't think I can win at keeping 2g going as a single consumer of the services. Is vodafone an option for you for 2g? Coverage They are shutting 2g off next September.

My plan is to switch my voice sim to vodafone come december. Keep my data sim on Telstra. Would like to get more life out of my Letv 1s. Im very tempted though by the ZTE Axon 7. Might make the Elephone S7 an interesting choice.

Moto Z to the list, just released here in Australia. Also the cheaper Moto Z Play with a chipset and a few other downgraded specs. Yep, I'm running the Moto G4 Plus with chipset at the moment.

Moto has lost their minds while designing the Z series It will struggle to last a day Found this form and associated wiki to be very helpful. It's stated as confirmed at launch but the manufacturers own spec sheet doesn't appear to support this.

Table of data https: The ZTE is available for presale here www. As it seems to be an updated version of the Xepria performance which is 4g and 3g sim, I presume it will also be dual 4g and 3G.

Does anyone have any experience or confirm the dual sim feature will operate on 4g and 3g at the same time. Your device supports the use of two different networks at the same time.

You can select from the following network mode combinations when two SIM cards are inserted in your device: Different status icons are displayed in the status bar depending on the type or mode of network that you are connected to.

Refer to Icons in the status bar to see what the different status icons look like. The primary consideration for me anyway is that I need a rugged dual-sim phone that will not force the second sim to only use 2g when the first sim is also active.

My second sim stops working in less than a month, if Telstra really does disable all it's central 2g servers HLR, etc. John Willie Gee writes The Zenfone 3 models are now on the confirmed list.

Looks like the new Kirin on the Huwaei Mate 9 can also be added to the list. Maybe we can also add which phones are stupid enough to have hybrid slots in them. I haven't seen any Samsung devices yet, I wonder whether they'll release one, ones that don't explode, of course.

Wasn't even announced as a feature on the Kenzo, so no guarantee it actually comes across. Exactly what's been holding me off. Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge dual sim running nougat now supports 3G on the second sim.

You can receive calls on any sim while on a call. I can see in mobile networks that my sim 1 can use 3G https: When making a call on sim 1, data is not allowed this thread wouldn't reload so that would indicate to me that when in a call the other radio is disabled.

SM-GFD, obviously the dual sim model. Great to have dual active sims with the nougat upgrade. It is only available with the nougat update. I noticed it when I updated the firmware to nougat.

I am sure that there is a screenshot somewhere. I haven't looked for links on this but I doubt that I am the first person to notice it. If you do find a link post it anyway. According to the specs here — https: I am thinking of one of these Elephone S7 knock off chinese phones Has a Snapdragon so same as G4 Plus but lots of other phones aren't supporting the feature.

What on the UM site makes you think it does. All I can see is a statement that it supports 4G and 3G networks. I could not find any other reference that it is able to so I asked the question on XDA forums, and got a simple no it can't:.

I was a little sceptical as it doesn't explicitly say what it does simultaneously, however, when googling around I found the following statement from Samsung Hong Kong website:. I could not find any other reference that it is able to so I asked the question on XDA forums, and got a simple no it can't: Pretty easy for someone to say that not knowing the correct information.

I will try to take a screenshot and post it. I was surprised that it was in the nougat beta update. Samsung in Singapore announced it so maybe google that. I did find the following link to a singapore forum claiming 3G support for dual sim on the Galaxy S7, only in selected countries, I think I am reading it right:.

Samsung SG state it will come by Q4 so they still got time. Samsung did release the 3G suppprt for dual SIM with firmware: Singapore is the only country left out in this update. As for your question to Android 7.

Korea only so don't expect official stable release to reach Singapore that fast. Ok just to update the Samsung S7 dual sim model. I generally don't run dual sims but today I was going to post a screenshot showing that it does display 3G on the second sim.

In the menu that is the case However I changed the data sim to the second one and the first one fell back to 2G. So I guess that is why nougat is still in beta. I do believe that it will have this functionality soon but for now it is not working.

Sorry for any misinformation. BTW, interesting when I read about Netcom 2. Would be interesting to test whether the Australian carriers care if they see two IMEI on their network at the same time.

Is it obvious which number incoming calls or sms are from? I've got a work phone and personal phone and really don't want to let customers get my personal number! Depending on the phone some are more obvious than others.

As jokiin mentioned when calling all can be set to prompt which sim. The better ones prompt you for the name of the SIM that you define instead of just he number making it more obvious.

More importantly it can be hard to see the sim sms is sending because they don't normally prompt, you have to be careful to look at the sim indicator near the "send" button. When taking on my first dual sim, I did make a few mistakes sending work stuff on my personal SIM, but quickly got the hang of it, until I changed phones.

I used to use Dual Sim Selector apk from pixel rush. I haven't got it to work on my latest phone but if they fix the bug I'll be using it again. That sounds very handy!

I do try to make sure all my work contacts are in my work google account, and personal kept separate, so that sort of automation would be really handy. Cheers for the info. Now to try pick a phone My wife has a 32GB model.

No NFC, no message light. Could have gone the 5. After considering everything, 5" phone and support for B28 were most important things for me I use Optus and here in Canberra they don't have access to all the other frequencies available everywhere else.

Here's a thread I've found as well: Think it is doubtful as well. I've put an new post on their thread asking for a screenshot of the the sim status. Not sure if we'll get a response as the last post was back in June.

I am sorry that we cannot provide screenshots for now since we don't have the unboxed LG G5 on hand for review. I will try to repost the screenshots once available.

Looks like there is a good chance it will do it, but with all this confusion only screenshots of the SIM status will settle it once and for all. What a farce from the manufacturers.

The specs I'm looking for are: From the Wiki link, it looks as though there is no such phone on sale in Australia and dubiously anywhere else in the world. Kogan have a parallel import Moto E3 but it doesn't have band That suits my needs as I just need it to access security code texts sent from Australia when I'm overseas so I know when they're coming.

Agreed, any manufacturer releasing a dual SIM phone here in Australia should be very explicit in declaring the 2G limitation. If not surely consumers will be able exercise their rights about it not being fit for purpose.

Due to my phone being dropped and needing to purchase right away, I did not have the luxury of waiting it out for suitable products to be released. Presumably Motorola wanted a cheaper price point phone.

Agree though it should be clearly disclosed to purchasers or dropped — like Oppo who released an AU model as a single SIM phone. If you push it to 5. Thanks for the suggestion but I'm happy with about 4.

I'm hoping the Zenphone Go works out. Hi All, The telstra 2g will be switched off tomorrow 1st Dec I am using samsung s7 edge duos. I noticed when I first set up to have both sim working last time Jan Recently after the phone last phone update Oct I am not sure is that means i will still able to have both active after the switch off.

I think we should be able to find out tomorrow. Both SIMs are on Telstra. ROM is the android OS. Specific carrier or country has specific ROM. Telstra using its own ROM same as Optus.

I don't think there is any doubt with those screenshots. I'm on stock Android 6. Phone is UAE variant. That good news, it indicates it will likely be a universal update, not region specific to those that are shutting down their 2G network like Singapore.

After installing this update, my sim behaviour didn't change — 1 sim still has to be 2G only. Both have the same Exynos chips, but doesn't mean they get updated on the same cycle e.

Both have the same Exynos chips, but doesn't mean they get updated on the same cycle. The 2 sim still working fine after the switch off. I did try to set one of the sim to 2G only cause I am not sure has Telstra switch off totally on scheduled to start switching on today one after another.

I tested this on my device this morning and have the same experience. The result is the 2G only sim will still get signal but in roaming mode. Try making a call before you get too excited.

The fact that you said you get signal in roaming mode suggests your phone is getting that signal from another network and it's only good for an emergency call. The fact that you said you get signal in roaming mode suggests your phone is getting that signal from another network and it's only good for an emergency cal.

You got me wrong. I switch to 2G only to see if I still getting signal to proof that Telstra did switch it off. Mine still using Telstra ROM. For others — can you post exactly what ROM and where you got it, and maybe the GFD users can try something similar.

So, the second sim Telstra in my OnePus 2 dual sim phone no longer operates after Telstra shut down their 2G network overnight. Key requirements are dual sim obviously the second sim is 3G and not 2G when on standby, Snapdragon or higher CPU, 5.

Band 28 support would be great but not essential. I'm looking for a replacement phone and would really appreciate any recommendations. This thread seems to relate to dual sim phones but for years i have used triple sims for businesses and personal use which has been very practice, Of course today i find that my Acer E tripple sim smartphone now only has one active sim as i am with telstra, Cant believe it..

I have googled but cant seem to find triple sims with all three on 3g or 4g at once, Really at a loss. Maybe i switch to Voda until next September and hope phone manufacturers get with the times by then.

I have been using dual sim phones for the last 5 years, and this is the first time I've heard of a triple SIM phone Agreed, it will need a lot more telcos to shutdown their 2G networks.

I'm surprised we have the capability with dual-sim phones now, I didn't think the dual-sim market in Australia had that much influence as the phones are not sold by the carriers I'm surprised we have the capability with dual-sim phones now, I didn't think the dual-sim market in Australia had that much influence as the phones are not sold by the carriers.

It's people holding onto old feature phones that had GSM. That's why we still have the 2G around. A long time ago they were the bee's knees. Still people using them, I think.

Australian dual-sim, it's the telcos who are preventing OEMs from making available duals. Actually no one except the customer benefits we buy less phones and we make smarter use of plans Certainly why they don't subsidise or distribute them, but there simply aren't that many dual-sims produced compared to single, apart from the China market where it seems far more common and as I understand it phones generally aren't carrier subsidised.

Hi all, i have spent countless hours looking up relevant info and also read all above comments regarding dual 3G sim phones and this forum has been very helpful.

My question is I am looking at getting a Motorola z play. Has anyone got one and if so are you happy with its dual sim functions and phone quality? This firmware hasn't been uploaded on Sammobile.

S7 Edge users can do the same thing. Yes had one for a couple of weeks now. Loving it and it's awesome battery life. If your firmware combination is different from Samsung's stock one, you cannot get update.

It will just show that the current version is up to date. Hi There, I'm looking at one of these phones too. But I have an Australia-bought Gear S So I have added a card and paid with it using the watch: That was not correct.

Although the phone shows full bars for both network. What's the network type for the SIM card that's not selected for 4G? Is it 3G or 2G? It doesn't have a microSD card slot but 64 GB of internal memory should be enough.

I keep on seeing words of caution on this forum, but there's also some praises though. Thanks for that Alacritas. I must be getting tired not to notice that. I'll start all over in the morning.

It's getting so complicated that I might just keep my existing 3G phone as the second sim slot. I edited the wiki and added a new field and clarification as all phones listed are dual stand-by phones.

For me I love streaming music and using the net for hours on my data only sim and if I got a message on my other sim want to be able to reply without any interruption. Wiki's can also create a searchable table which might be good to look into if this becomes a popular listing.

Are you sure about this? Can you put in a Telstra sim in slot 2 and try to make calls while 4G is activated on slot 1. Would you please post screen shots and youtube video. I posted a while back that 3G was available on the second sim a while back but once I tested it I realised that it may say 3G on the second sim but if you try to use it then it will drop down to 2G.

That was on the nougat beta for the S7 Edge. This functionality is meant to be available at least in Singapore before the end of the year. Double check the last two digits which should be K5, not J2.

J2 version had the bug that you mentioned, but it's fixed in K5. I can make a phone call using my second sim Telstra prepaid while my main sim Optus is connected to LTE. Of course, the second sim cannot be used for data connection although it's on 3G network.

The second sim can be definitely used for a voice call and SMS messaging while the main sim is connected to LTE network. One thing I just noticed is that the data connection on the main sim will be lost during a phone call using the second sim.

Once you start a phone call with the second sim, the main sim's data connection is lost and cannot use internet during the call. It is instantly recovered after the call though. I am really enjoying nougat.

I would like dual sim functionality but don't want to roll back. I would presume that if I did it may work but I would lose it again if I chose to go back to nougat again so it's probably not worth it at the moment.

I would think that nougat would support this in the future. I have read there have been updates to the S7 Snapdragon models which enabled it but these are only single sim. I want to pull the trigger on an S7 dual sim non-edge for my father in law but the inconsistent reports are holding me back.

I have moto g2 now that 2g has been stopped I can only use one Sim at a time. So when I'm using Sim 2 which is most of the time I miss calls and text on Sim 1 where ad before I used to see them when 2g was active.

I have a grandfathered prepaid encore in Sim one which I use for my calls and text which I want to keep and the expiry isn't until and a prepaid plus in Sim 2 that I use mainly for data.

Can anyone tell me which phones would work for me Thanks: Currently have a Samsung Mega 5. Am after Dual Active and large screen. Can anyone tell me which phones would work for me.

I'm really happy about this 'cause buying another handset so soon after getting the S7 would have been annoying, but not as annoying as having to carry a second phone around with me.

I had no idea it already had the hardware for the job. Thank you to Jjayj and to the Whirlpool hive-mind for saving me a few hundred bucks. Back to the topic at hand, both SIMs in the phone worked as hoped today, and I had the added bonus of being able to rub it gently in the face of a coworker having the same problem with his phone — a Huawei of some description.

Optus haven't shut down 2G. Would suggest iinet is set as the data SIM. Irrespective of whether either SIM is on a network that may or may not have shutdown the 2G network, the screenshots show one SIM connected to 4G while the other is on 3G.

Both sims are Telstra, and both are working. Or should I wait for the S8 which is just around the corner Pumpino provided links here to flash the phone: Be careful, this phone comes in single sim and dual sim variants.

The Australian Motorola website says it is the XT http: This site that lists all the variants http: Other sites say it is the dual SIM. Since you will be buying from an official Australian channel where the local telcos seem push against dual SIM phones, make sure you examine it carefully before purchasing.

Anything similar for the Moto E 2nd Gen? Got this phone less than 6 months ago and unfortunately, didn't know the Telstra 2G network was going off before I purchased it.

Also be aware that the sim pins in this phone can break. Once I had a dual-sim phone, its single sim now. Wikipedia provides the best description imho Dual standby phones, such as those running on Mediatek chipsets, allows both SIMs to be accessed through time multiplexing.

When making or receiving calls, the modem locks to the active channel; the other channel would be ignored and thus unavailable during the duration of the call. I've been reading the past few pages.

I haven't done alot of research though. So what phones that do have dual sim, support Optus's LTE bands? And how about support for SD card? Lets see with a different set of requirements?

I am looking but I can't find anything of this spec. OR moto g4 plus but you miss out on NFC. Have you read the Wiki?? It summarises a bunch of phone bands and prices. I have looked everywhere but cannot find confirmation that it does.

Budget Mediatek chip, even the mid-range Mediatek P10 doesn't generally support it. I know that what gearbest is saying might not be correct so I still believe Ziggster.

Anybody else who got this phone who can confirm? I have been looking at the Nubia Z7 max which is a two year old phone. It has NFC and is now selling at a competitive price. Does anybody has experience with this phone?

Re Nubia Z7 Max. Yes, you are probably right. Nothing beats actual experience though. That is why I am asking those who have this phone to confirm that the advice given by the seller is incorrect.

The Z7 Max gets very good reviews. Too bad it will not be dual capable in Australia by the end of next year. It is not on the wiki list. Just realised that MSM is Snapdragon which is on the list.

Only just gotten into stock despite being 'launched' in October, so no reports either way yet. But it's only LTE Bands 1,3,7, Ones that come to mind are:.

I am using the last option but when I have a WiFi connection, I switch the Telstra SIM slot to 3G so I can receive calls and txts directly on the Telstra number without having to do the diversion and txts cannot be diverted anyway.

Maybe just get a new phone. I used to think that was ok but soon realised too many people like to communicate with SMS by default. I picked up a Huawei GR Really with a Mediatek Screenshots please of both 4G and 3G active at the same time.

From what I've read, worldwide launches will follow the US. Including for the Hasselblad mod, which is what I'm interested in getting. The extra battery pack is mah https: That's really thick—it's like going back in time three of four years to when phones were beefier.

The Moto Z with Mod is by my measurement g. That is heavier than the massive Cat S The Z Force with Mod is g. Heavier and thicker than I expected. I had the x play which was I didn't find it too bad but it was on the thicker side.

It hasn't turned me off the phone but it is a little disappointing. Will any of you consider the play model Instead? I'm hearing it runs just as quick as the top end models.

Plus I'm not fussed having a p screen. Seems worth the potential savings to me. The only downside is I wanted the thinnest possible model since I plan on attaching bulky mods to the phone.

Well, I'd prefer 4GB of ram, the SD and the shatter proof screen to 'future proof' myself a little with the Force, but the if the Play is the right price, then I'd go for that assuming there's a reasonable saving over the Force.

Apparantly the shattershield screen scratches up easier. Search for Flossy Carter's moto z play unboxing, 5 minutes 10 seconds in, he says he is glad they didn't go with shattershield, then he shows the scratches on the moto z force.

Thanks for the update — the power pack does make it quite a hefty device. I like the mods part, but they really could have just made some updates to the moto x style, added a fingerprint scanner, full waterproof, larger battery.

The moto z play looks good — a shame the stereo speakers from the style haven't carried over Here's a review of the Hasselblad camera mod: Could that be negated by a screen protector perhaps?

Just thinking aloud, I've got no experience with shatterproof screens. If you're after battery life, Moto Z Play looks the goods. Hoping we can at least import one here for Aus.

Noticed clove is giving the power pack for free Expected 8th September, I wander how accurate that is. I'd prefer to get one in a brick and mortar store. A lot less stressful: If clove is hundreds of dollars cheaper than a brick and mortar store and I need to wait a month or so longer to get one in store, I may go with clove though.

The power pack will make it an absolute beast with battery life. Granted be a bit thicker — 11mm. Phones like the htc 10 are 9mm. Add a case to the HTC and it'd be around the same.

Just couldn't add a case with the power pack on. But I think it acts sort of as a case as it'd make the moto z easier to hold and you wouldn't worry about the back being scratched.

Anyone know if only Vodafone will be the only one to stock it? Surprised dwi has the moto g4 plus, hopefully they stock the moto z including the play version.

This may be the first phone I bravely use without a case: Plus having to remove a case every time I use a mod would be annoying, so I'll take the chance I think: One thing I like about cases is that they add grip.

Just in regards to this. The more I read about these phones the more is seems confirmed that the Force is definitely a Verizon exclusive. I emailed Clove to see if I can get feedback on the likelihood of them having stock of the moto z 8th of September, as the website advertises that is when they are expecting stock.

I'd like to think there was a good chance or we wouldn't advertise it! We have a pretty good relationship with Moto UK and their stock updates are generally very reliable.

The 8th is Thursday and we're expecting the stock to be ready so we can ship these out for Friday deliveries. They might slip to Friday, or arrive late in the day on Thursday so we can't ship out.

If that happens, we'll let everyone with an order know. With its mah battery size and p screen, Play does seem the best option. Slapping the battery pack on would take you to around mah.

Looks like Clove's expected stock date is accurate. I couldn't find any indication anywhere of when the Moto Z would be available anywhere, then it just pops up in the UK.

I wander if Australia will be the same? No announcement, one day it's just randomly available to purchase? Knowing a price and expected availability in Australia would make my decision to buy from Clove or wait for the Australian release a whole lot easier: Chances are I'll take the plunge, buy from Clove, then there will be a delay, then the phone will randomly be available to buy in Australia for a decent price before I get it from Clove: I think Vodafone will stock it like they stocked the style and play last time.

I emailed DWI and they said they are unsure if they will stock it, to just keep checking their website Looks like Kogan and dick Smith online will be selling the moto z and z force.

And I wouldn't expect these mods to be too cheap either. That's the only downside of buying the non-mainstream phones. Options in purchasing are severely limited. Not having a schedule of release dates around the world is poor project management Someone should slap the board directors heads together.

Interesting test — bend test. This guy absolutely ruins the phone. He does, though from what he is saying it seems to stack up well in comparison to other phones, especially considering how thin it is.

I ended up taking the plunge and ordered off clove. Luckily I seemed to get in before they ran out of stock for the first shipment, as my moto z has been shipped: Did it come with the battery pack as well?

What's the total cost with shipping? I would of strongly considered the play if it was out same time, but if I'm adding mods I'd like the thinnest form factor possible.

The play seems to be better value though, reviewers seem to think performance is really good despite the lower processor and I wouldn't care about p resolution. Ffs, when is the moto z play coming out?

Really want this phone but they seem to have been teasing it's release for like 3 months. A couple nice surprises I wasn't expecting, the back wasn't the wooden one that I have seen in unboxings, maybe different regions have different backs?

The one I got is black. It is textured with subtle diagonal lines in different shades of black. It's nice and grippy! Also, there was a clear plastic bumper thrown in which covers the sides, and still allows you to change the mods with it left on.

It's awesome cause it's free and I can change the mods with it on, though it feels cheap and wiggles around a tiny bit, so I may or may not use it, not sure yet. The phone is very light, and very thin, even with the style mod on it.

The screen is great. It feels really snappy and responsive. I'm not really in to photography, but i'll make a mental note to take a few pictures to put up here. They will likely just be point and shoot pictures: Being so thin, what's the "bendability" of the phone like?

Without the back or plastic bumper I actually find it is less slippery than the HTC A ridiculously thin and flat phone feels odd, but not too bad. With the black style mod, which I have found out is one of the nylon backs, it feels great.

It's nice and grippy and has a nice texture. I'm not sure what the other backs will feel like so it depends which back you end up with. The Incipio battery mod also feels great, it is soft touch, feels like a hard rubber.

I've read on the Android Central forums the Tumi battery mod is slippery. I'm not gonna attempt to bend my new phone ; but it feels really solid. Doesn't feel flimsy at all. Jerryrigeverything did a bend test that you can look up.

With force he was able to bend it, but it bent back in shape. Keep in mind most phones can bend and many phones, he has been able to bend to the point of folding. The z, he could only bend slightly.

Battery life I can't tell you much because I have had the phone one night then put it on charge, so stay tuned for that. I think what happened was the mod charged my phone and that's it.

That kind of sucks. The phone is not very thick with the battery mod but definitely has weight to it. I may get used of this, though I think I'll save the mod for only when I need it, for times when I have long days away from chargers.

I haven't used battery cases but it seems like a much better solution. I certainly prefer it over having my phone tethered to a cable and in to my battery pack. I'd rather be able to use my phone without it being tethered to anything Some have critiqued the design but I like it.

I love the thiness, I love the build quality. The front looks fine the square fingerprint sensor and sensors don't stand out at all. I like the look of the phone without a style shell, sure it makes the phone look unfinished, and exposes the pins, but it makes the phone stand out as something cool and technical.

If you walked around with your phojr completely naked you would definitely get attention: Having a fingerprint sensor that doesn't take me home has tricked me a few times but no big deal, I'm getting used of it: Wether buying this phone for a casual user with all the mods is worth it or not, I'm not sure.

As other reviewers have stated you can buy battery packs, Bluetooth speakers etc for cheaper. But for a tech geek that wants something cool to show off to friends and play around with, it's great!

Whilst perhaps more expensive, and whilst the accessories only plug in to the z, it means no connecting to Bluetooth or tethering your phone to wires. It may or may not be worth it to some people to pay extra for this.

Thanks for sharing your experience. No problems, I assume using the supplied charger will charge both overnight. Im going to buy an adaptor today so I can use it. Here are some pictures, as said before, I'm not really a photographer so these are just point and shoot pictures from an amateur.

I haven't even messed with any settings. Haven't even played around with them yet: While I'm sharing pictures, here is what the phone looks like with the included style mod and bumper.

More thoughts, the fingerprint sensor is great. I was happy with the HTC 10 front facing fingerprint sensor, but this one is even better. I don't have to hold my finger down as long and it seems to respond quicker.

I also really appreciate being able to lock the screen by holding down the finger print sensor. Earlier I was searching for the power button to do this, then remembered I can just use the fingerprint sensor: The screen is great outdoors so far, but today is a cloudy day, I'm looking forward to seeing what outdoor visibility is like on a sunny day.

Excellent photos and initial review. I've been a big fan of the Moto software since using the X style. Have you tested the phone battery without the extra power pack? Be good to see how it fares.

I know it's hard to judge, as everyone installs different apps. Screen on time can vary based on playing games, verse just web browsing. And the single speaker sounds ok?

The additional JBL speaker looks the goods, especially no need to switch on bluetooth. The speaker sounds average, not great, not horrible. I may be spoilt though coming from HTC 10 which has great speakers.

To be honest though I haven't had a phone call yet, have watched very little video and played games on the bus with volume turned down. I'm on the bus now so won't be cranking the volume right now: D haven't yet tested the sound with headphones.

I haven't been using the battery pack but have not yet had a normal day to test the battery. I charged the phone in the middle of the day today so couldn't get a good idea of what battery life would be like.

You seemed to get it ridiculously quickly. Did you use their DHL or Fedex option? I ordered just before their expected stock arrival date. I think I ordered the 7th? There were 3 options 15 pounds for standard delivery then DHL and Fedex 22 pounds, I decided to pay extra for the faster shipment.

I checked the site on the 8th and it said the first shipment had already sold out, so I just got in on time. To the person that asked about speaker quality. I played the same song on the moto z and htc The HTC 10 is louder, but not dramatically louder.

The sound on the HTC 10 is a lot fuller than the moto z. Sound is decent but not great on the moto z. I was wondering what low light photos are like on the phone?

Modular phones are something I like, especially removable batteries and I've been umming whether to get this phone or the g5. To swap out a mod on the G5 you need to turn the phone off, press a release button, slide out the bottom, unhook the battery which involves yanking it out at an angle with force attach the battery to the mod you want to insert, slide in the bottom, then turn the phone back on.

Moto Z the mods are on with strong magnets and connect using pins on the back of the phone. You simply lift off one mod, then snap on the mod you want to replace it with. No set up, phone remains on.

If you didn't want the Moto Z, and the main reason you want a modular phone is for a removable battery, you might as well get a V It actually looks easier to swap a battery on the V20 which is not 'modular' over the LG G5.

So I have my first indication of what battery life is like without a mod. On my HTC 10 i'd get around 4. I think this is pretty decent for a mah battery with a 5. This is only my first proper cycle though so who knows next time I may get 5 or 3?

Regarding the mods, I know people have said the projector mod is expensive eg. I think I'd still want it. Hooked up to a powerful bluetooth speaker, it'd be a cheap inch TV with that old cinema type feel.

Here's a clip of it in a dark room: And see the second half of this video — watch from the 1 minute mark: Supposedly you can get cheaper higher res projectors, so personally If I was going to get a projector, I probably wouldn't get the mod, I'd get a standalone one.

You could argue the same for the speaker and battery mods but i'm not paying as much of a premium for those. Hopefully it'll be up on some of the usual grey importers too so we can see who's doing the best deal.

Well the expected shipping date for the regular Z model was accurate, I ordered the day before, then next day my phone had shipped and not long after the first shipment was sold out! So seems like they are pretty reliable on their dates.

I wish we had some idea when the Moto Z is available in Australia because I want the speaker mod and not sure weather to pay for the shipping to get it from clove, or wait a bit longer for it to be available in Australia.

I just checked my screen on time. The last 2 night shifts I was on, I probably spent more time playing games so perhaps that's why i'm on track for much better SOT, but I'm still impressed considering this is a 5.

Regarding projectors, I checked and there are heaps on eBay, but not many of them are reviewed. I saw the Asus S1 is small and twice the amount of lumens, but in its favour, the moto mod has 1 hour plus about 2 hours of phone battery.

So similar to the Asus. Plug in an external battery pack and it could be several hours of viewing. The standard alone projectors seem to still require a cable, and many don't have the adjustment of the moto projector, some need a tripod.

The Moto mod Auto adjusts, so when the screen appears to be on an angle to the wall. See review of the Moto Z play: The play seems to get really good reviews. Many even consider it a better phone than the more expensive options due to the headphone jack, battery life, the screen which is not shatterproof supposedly less prone to scratches good performance considering the processor is lower quality and a lot cheaper.

If I wasn't a phone junkie I'd probably get the play as I'd patient enough to wait for its release and it would be a lot better value: Preordered the Z play from Clove. Hopefully it gets delivered soon!

I'll post some feedback once I receive. Battery life on the Play should be insane. This review is quite positive: This is from Ausdroid back on July 10th http: Would seem from this that the phone would be available in Australia in September, though no word yet: Update for those interested.

Moto Z Play is "confirmed" in stock tomorrow at Clove. Hopefully they finally ship my preorder as it's been a week longer than their expected arrival date. Still no real signs of anything being released in Australia which sucks for those keen to buy locally.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the Moto Z Play: I'm loving the Moto Z, but think the play is the better value option of the two. I hope the phones are released in Australia soon because this thread is dead!

I assume that's the reason the forums are dead anyway. I thought these phones would be super popular among us geeks with the stock software and moto mods.

Have you tested the Moto Z screen on-time with the moto battery mod? Be interesting to see how it lasts. Not much, but thats due to the fact that the Z gets surprisingly good battery life without the mod.

The phone is quite hefty with the mod so I only put it on from time to time at the end of a heavy use day, and usually that's just for half an hour before I go to sleep. Whilst the mod feels too heavy for me to use permanently attached to my phone, it's still handy to have when you want an extra hour or two battery life without having to tether your phone to a cord.

Well my play has shipped and both the black and white versions of the play are in stock at Clove. I'm guessing I'll recieve around Friday or Monday, I'll update you all then: Battery test is certainly going to be an interesting one Hopefully they continue to make moto mods, I for one would love to see some sort of car dock that beings up a custom app Nav, Music, Vehicle when connected.

Me too, I'm concerned that we haven't heard of any new moto mods in the works. I mean if you want to make a mod, you would be less likely to bother after the sales of the phone have died down.

I assumed it was the charger. I connected the battery mod and it recognized the mod but found out in the morning it wasn't actually charging. I restarted the phone, now the mod was charging it and the AC adaptor was charging the phone.

I disconnected the charger and the phone instantly turned off. I was on the bus and had my phone connected to my battery pack for about 10 minutes, then the phone was no longer charging, but was turned on still.

I unplugged the charger, the phone is still turned on. Since then I plugged the phone in and now it registers as charging. For the moment my phone appears to be working fine, but this doesn't seem like the type of issue that happens once, rectifies itself and never happens again.

Is the cable a thicker gauge? I bought off ebay a few which were the thicker gauge — AWG etc by memory could be wrong. The standard ones sold are AWG Search ebay for AWG 24 cable. They're trying to punch out up to 2 amps output, but the cable is restricting it.

Buy some thicker cables and give it another try. I have several different cables, not sure what AWG they are or what that means and don't know how to check how many amps it's charging at lol.

Though interestingly after your post I decided to try plugging my phone in to the charger which was at the start of the problem and the phone instantly turned off. Got the phone back on, tried the charger with a different cable and not picking up any charge.

I use a different charger, and the phone is charging fine I wander if the problem is somehow linked to the charger I initially plugged my phone in to? Though the moto mod wasn't charging the phone last night?

Then checked the mod, it charges the phone, other charges, they charge the phone. The moto mod battery pack is probably fine with charging with any cable, so that's why it isn't affected.

I'd stick to charging with the Moto turbo charger. And regarding the cables, the lower the AWG, the better the quality of cable within. I ended up using the supplied battery charger with the lenovo — and swapped not being aware what would happen the USB cable for one I've always used — no charge.

I then used an external battery charger for my Samsung phone — and cable that charges the Samsung phone — no charge. Now the lenovo tab, with the right cables 24 AWG — these come with LG phones etc and other manufacturers, charges with any charger that has an output of 2 amps and above.

Seems like a pain, but I understand, it just doesn't like those cheap ebay cables, and wall chargers and external portable battery chargers that can't produce a strong charge. Thanks for the response, I really appreciate it.

Have factory resetted my phone as well to see if that helps, can't hurt anyway. I think I'll stick to the htc 10 turbo charger and the included turbo charger. I also have the battery mod when I forget to bring a charger with me.

Any idea why the moto z might be the first phone I've had have issues with some chargers? My Lenovo tab for example, would not charge and actually lose charge with your standard thin usb cable to a PC or older type wall adapter 1amp.

The plus side of having the thicker grade cables. Especially the usb 3. You'd have to check if your phone works and charges quick via usb with these cables. Can charge my Bluetooth headphones and most of my mah battery pack both in the one work day.

Don't know how it can pull more amps out of the usb port but it must do. Some just say heavy duty. But you can tell by the photos usually and the specs on the charging output. They're good to own and makes you wonder why manufacturers don't include an extra one in the box If I hadn't owned the Lenovo tab, and looked at the cable closely and did some research, would never have known why it sometimes charged and sometimes didn't..

Also look for power banks with a strong charge. I have used a patriot one from MSY for ages — powers at 2. But jbhifi sells ones with a 2amp output.. This issue might be due to substandard USB C cables.

Apparently it's a pretty big issue as many cables, even from reputable manufacturers don't meet the spec. This was a non-issue with micro USB cables. Is this your first USB C phone?

I haven't had any charging issues with those phones using the same cables. Recent video on moto mods — how they work and what's on the inside pulled apart: The Moto Z has the usual mix of battery saving modes and optimization settings, but I never turned any of that stuff on and was still left with my jaw on the floor.

Not a Galaxy S7 Edge. Not an iPhone 7 Plus. Those devices are far more technically advanced, but the Moto Z Play starts to make you wonder whether things like a 2K display or souped up processor are really worth it.

This kind of battery life opens up a different level of freedom in using your phone how you want on the go. The thing could probably chug through a cross-country flight without blinking.

Do we have any confirmation at all this phone is even being released in Aus? Would really like to get this phone. I checked with Motorola online support the other day — and their reply was they have no news whether the phone will be released here.

Considering vodafone stocked the x style and x play last time, I'm taking a guess and saying they will stock it. Be good to have some confirmation from someone. Buying from Clove or Expansys are the only two options I've come across — Kogan also lists it as a 64GB model for the Moto Z, but it says 'coming soon'.

He reviews the moto z play and hasselblad camera mod. In summary, thinks the battery life makes this a stand out. The hasselblad produces excellent images but can be a bit slow to focus, hopefully a software used date fixes it..

My Moto Z Play arrives tomorrow!!! It's here but today was a public holiday. Anything anyone wants to know just post below and I'll see what I can do: After reading more reviews — it seems the Moto Z as well has some excellent battery life.

Obviously, the Play is the stand-out for battery. Moto Z Play now looks like a good option to replace my wife's LG G4, especially at this price; it's a bit longer than I prefer but let us know what the feel of the phone is like.

Just got my JBL Soundboost speaker today, not as loud as a bluetooth speaker, but still very cool. I's nice to significantly increase the sound of your phone without having to pair.

Will post more later but here's something impressive. Used it most of last night without plugging in to charge. Unsure if there was any factory SOT in there. Might have to go for two days to see it's true capability.

Would also work well with the Insta Projector — providing probably hours of projection time. Buying an external portable projector — they seem to only last about minutes. Although lower on lumens 50 lumens — but many others on Amazon have the same for being portable the insta projector also has keystone correction etc — making it actually a very good projector.

And would have no issues streaming netflix etc. Few of the other portable projectors I've read about have issues with either connecting to bluetooth for external speakers, streaming netflix apps, or lack keystone correction to fix an image tilt.

Well I bit the bullet and bought a Play from Clove this afternoon. I was waiting to see what the Pixel launch offered but after seeing the price, I scrapped that thought. Moto Z and mods teased on Australian facebook page today as Coming soon.

I think z play well be my next phone. I would have really liked a local warranty, but when push came to shove, I needed a new phone and the Z Play fit best, so grey import it had to be.

The regular Z probably can't compete right up the top due to its lacking reputation, so I think Motorola will sit it just below. Can anybody tell me where I can buy a dual sim z play, thanks lot.

Z play sell in British is a single sim version. Had a discussion with https: Hey John, thanks for reaching out! At this moment, Moto Z is not yet officially released in Australia. So any devices purchased outside of AU will not have an Australian warranty so any claims made for the device will not be covered.

There is also no guarantee if it will work properly with networks in Australia since it is not an Australian unit. The US phones, as many people point out, usually lack band 28 which is used on the telstra network.

If possible, if you don't buy from clove, buy from the UK Amazon to ensure the phone works on all the Aus network bands. When people worry about warranty etc, I noticed Amazon sells a 1 year and 2 year warranty on its phones between a certain price limit.

From the look of it, it covers you for 3 accidental claims including cracked screen and water damage, it is worldwide coverage, and includes the swap or repair of the phone. No extra costs or fees, doorstop replacement — within 1 business day might be a few days for international.

This seems better than manufacturer warranty — which only covers a breakdown of the phone, not damage. Hopefully the version to be released in Australia will be dual-sim like the Moto G and E series.

I see a nice looking slim plastic case on eBay, but it appears to leave the Moto Mods pins exposed. I'd prefer to have the pins covered seeing as I imagine a mod can't be used with the cover on anyway, so it seems pointless that they're left exposed.

I understand the push from MotoAust to get buyers to buy local because the phone will also contain Australia-Tax therefore Profits! Oh well, their loss. I dont really care for a "Moto" warrenty My wifes Moto G was faulty from new.

I notice that The Good Guys is still advertising the Note 7 on their website. Obviously keeping their website up to date is not a priority. On HN the chat person said they haven't received details about the phone yet but shouldn't be long.

Although the Incipio power mod is out of stock at the moment. Rang the Good Guys and Harvey Norman and both said they have no info on when Moto Z Play stock would be arriving so I ended up just ordering through the motorola Australia site.

Added a Crimson style mod too. Hopefully they are quick with the shipping Motorola online chat person told me weeks. I took my Note back for a refund today so will also be ordering online over the weekend I think.

I'm also going with the crimson back. I think it comes with a wooden looking one which I don't really like the look of, not certain about that though. Anyone find any coupons for ordering on the motorola site?

I can see there is a field available for coupon codes. Surprised motorola haven't done a deal to encourage people to get more than one style mod. I got the black nylon one with the Clove Z.

I would like to get the light coloured wood back and the red nylon back. Looking forward to more people having the Z now it's being sold in Australia. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and hoping you enjoy your phones as much as I'm enjoying mine.

It does, seems a wood one if you order from Australia. I got a black nylon one ordering through clove. I assume that will be the same one from Amazon UK. Just waiting for the power pack mod to be back in stock I think it's still a Verizon exclusive until it is released outside US.

I'm afraid it will never be released outside of Verizon. All official channels indicate Z Force is Verizon exclusive forever. Are you sure this is the case, I've been trying to find out and Motorola Online Support were not able to provide a manual or direct answer.

Is this the Z? Yes, from what I can see in the online manuals the Moto Z supports all 3 together. It would be great if someone who has purchased the Moto Z can confirm. Just coming in on this conversation since I'm considering buying one.

I'm guessing no retailer has any Z [edit] Play's in stock at the moment. Officeworks in Sydney still don't know about it and HN seem to be showing out of stock for all stores.

The Good Guys site is currently down. I think the tray holds two SIMs with connectors facing up and then you flip it over to install the micro SD card. And that's been out for 'yonks'. I have a free samsung gb SD in it from the note 7 debacle.

No lag or anything anywhere that I've seen so far. Not a huge deal but it's definitely not at samsung level. Still very decent though. I have been notified that my Z Play is on its way.

So far the tracking is not working, so hopefully will be here in the next day or so. Can you share a photo of the sim tray, the online manuals disagree with your comments.

From the manual the thicker Moto Z Play has the SD card going on the back so has 3 independent slots. Also try the 'one click' app 'Perfectly Clear'. It has manual controls, but the one click setting does something like 20 corrections, including noise removal in the one step.

Although I can do this myself — find it does a pretty good job of turning some average photos into excellent photos. Also I remember seeing it listed for that price a while ago before the price was removed.

I know I could get it on Clove but I just feel like kogan is a bit more reliable and I've waited this long what's a little longer. I've never had any issues with Clove.

I don't know if others have? I think there is a small risk going with any grey importer so I don't know if Kogan is any better or worse than Clove. Clove is based in the UK, but Kogan provide their products from an international manufacturer anyway.

I will then sell the power pack and get the wireless version for wireless charging. Taking advantage of the weak pound sterling. Really liking the phone! I'm finding the battery life excellent btw, I know it has a mah battery but if I didn't know that, i'd swear it was odd.

Where will you buy the wireless power pack from? Stock appears limited at the moment. I'll write in here with how they are. Are you sure your talking about the normal Z and not the play?

If so though could you link the website cause that is a deal that can't be passed up. Especially with the battery pack!! I just checked and they dont have any more power pack in stock so I suggest to check regularly while the promotion is still on you cannot add the power pack from third party sellers for free.

When I ordered, the stock was 1. Power packs must be popular So what happens then if you need to make claim for warranty after buying from amazon UK. Ship back to Amazon UK?

And with a solidly built phone like Moto, I am less worried. Speaking of which, for just about every phone I have had there are people on a forum that report on some kind of common issue.

Poor to cripple what otherwise looks like a great phone — particularly the Play which appears to have three discreet slots. If that's true, getting from Clove is around AUD cheaper! For those interested in the Amazon UK deal ie free Incipio power pack mod, there is now stock only 2 though There are a few people here who picked up the Moto Z Play recently.

How's it been so far? I'm still waiting on mine. Clove sent it via DHL express, but they don't service my area, so it took 5 days to get to Aus and clear customs, before it was handed onto regular AusPost.

Anyway, it's in my towns AusPost depot now, but they take a few days to get it into a van for delivery, so probably next week sometime I might have it Actually received mine today surprisingly and it's awesome coming from a Windows Phone.

It's been a long time since I've used an Android phone so having fun so far. Definitely a single sim if you buy from Clove, but that's not a worry for me as I only have one service. If anyone has any questions about the Play — happy to answer.

I might throw up some screen on time info when I get some data. Just don't know whether the small improvements over the G4 Plus NFC, v justify the much higher price tag. I checked it out and on the moto z listing it says add an incipio power pack to your cart for free.

Just get on a live chat and they can make the adjustment for you ie deduct the cost of the power pack. Awesome thanks doing that now, did you buy warrenty on it? Sorry this is my first time buying a phone from overseas and just wondering if I should do that.

It seems to only be for accidental damage and I'm not too worried about that. But for a manufacturer issue you shouldn't need that extra warranty, just have to pay to ship it back.

And Amazon is a reliable seller to sort returns, etc. Yeah I noticed that too but I don't really mind. What I do mind however is that I got on the chat with Amazon.

Uk about the bundled incipio battery pack and they said that I had to contact Motorola as it was their promotion. I did that and they had no idea what I was talking about. I'm just going to contact Amazon again and hopefully this time I get a different operator.

I was assisted by the Amazon UK support to get the invoice right — sounds like they have a problem with their online system for the promotion. The steps may be different for your order but the net result should be the same.

The camera mod they say is excellent for zooming. Produces much clearer shots. For night shots, not much difference but this would require some photography know how. Here's a more balanced review by a photographer.

By the way — the UK Z Play comes with a black textured style cover which is pretty nice to hold in the hand. Photo here - http: Quick question; From pictures I've seen of the cover attached to the phone, there still seems to be a camera bump i.

I'm not too fussed because I want the booster battery mod because there's no such thing as too much battery and that definitely doesn't allow the camera to protrude past the case. Still, I'm asking because the phone is getting rave battery life reviews so there might be times where I'd favour a thinner phone rather than insanely good rather than just extremely good battery life.

I did some searching and came across one guy's youtube video. It didn't quite show anything, but his written review did. Zoom in to these pics: Looks like the camera is protected with the style shell on — with the camera sitting just lower than the style shell.

Same group have quite a few other Moto Z reviews, on the phone and the mods. The textured one is the one to have — more grip. Don't think the Aus version comes with this one.

Regarding camera quality — looks like the Z play camera is similar to the Moto Z. See a comparison between the two and even the samsung s7. This phone Moto Z really interests me. I currently have a Nexus 6P, which is an amazing phone.

However I'm looking for a decent dual sim phone with NFC. I played with the G4 Plus which is pretty a good phone, however the lack of NFC is a big downer for me as I use Android pay quite a bit.

The Australian one is available at http: Both the Moto Z and Moto Z play — specs say dual sim. So when you go to the checkout, you'll notice the price drops.

Yeah, those pictures appear to show the camera just protruding past the red material case and just NOT protruding past the wooden case but that could come down to the lighting and the viewing angle deceiving me.

I read back on page 8 of this thread that Officeworks and The Good Guys are also going to be selling them. My hope is that because they're late to the party, they might offer some sort of promotion e.

If you're after dual sim, and Australian warranty — then local would be the best bet. It's probably worth mentioning that at Motorola website you linked the Australian Warranty is showing as 12 months: I've read on here about the same thing regarding the 24 months warranty — what is reasonable etc I haven't seen where you can purchase from the goodguys and Officeworks, yet the official Motorola Australia page is saying you can buy them in store.

Comments are in the top few posts. Harvey Norman has the black ones in stock. Be interested to see if anyone here ordered the white from overseas. You're right about the G4 plus being excellent for the price.

I thought the same with the moto x style beig the cheapest of the Vodafone plans at the time. Yet specs, build quality, features, was better than most of the others.

Even now, the moto x style just needed a fingerprint reader and it could still stay relevant. I got the black nylon style shell with my moto z from clove and the camera hump feels pretty much flush.

It does not wiggle at all when laying on a flat surface. How's the jbl speaker? Can you fit that fat boy in your pockets after snapping on the mod? I don't see the mods as being an all day thing though personally.

If I need extra battery I'll attach the battery mod til it's drained then put it away in my bag which is with me for work. Same with the speaker only attach the speaker whilst in use. I love how light this phone is so won't make it heavy and bulky unless I need to.

I love being able to add battery and volume, but no need to leave it plugged in all day. I have the white Z Play. I ordered it from Motorola Australia and it came with the woodgrain style case.

With the black style cover I've got, the camera does not protrude at all, and if anything the camera is actually recessed by maybe 0. I also just checked and the camera is not protruding with the case on.

I noticed there is a silver jbl speaker coming soon which would match the white, and a white battery mod. The Moto Australia page seems to be stocking all the mods available — even if a few are coming soon.

My moto z play from the moto Aus store arrived today. Need to go and get a nano sim as I've not got one but from doing the basic setup so far it seems really nice. Very snappy interface, no bloatware, super responsive fingerprint reader etc.

Keen to see how the battery life goes over the next few days. I ordered a red style shell with it which didn't come with the phone wood one is included so I'm not sure if they posted that separately?

Hopefully that turns up in the next few days too. The Moto Z I ordered from Amazon UK for my wife arrived today — impressed with the solid build and surprised by the lightness of it. Very nice to handle with the style cover on — Moto has been great in making phones that doesnt make you run out to get a cover for it.

Thanks for all the replies! Really good to know the phone won't rock on a flat surface and also that the camera won't be getting scratched. Just ordered mine from. I had to talk with Amazon in live chat but they finally fixed it up.

In reference to my earlier post the second person I spoke too sorted it out, but the first operator who said he couldn't help actually ended up emailing me saying he was wrong and could help me out after all haha.

So if you're I interested in this deal definitely go check it out now! Btw oldgeek did yours come with a style shell? I thought the same thing when I got my G4 Plus a couple of months ago.

I now find I'm loving it. There's something nice about the consistency of having 3 buttons all with the same feel. And, by not having any capacitance buttons either side of the fingerprint scanner i.

Note too, that the fingerprint scanner will wake the phone and unlock it unless you've disabled the feature. If you want to wake it without unlocking i. Also, it's my understanding that the Moto Zs unlike the Moto Gs have the added feature of being able to turn off the phone with a long rest on the scanner.

Yeah, you can lock the screen by using any finger registered or not on the fingerprint scanner. It's only been a few days and it's already not an issue really. No it's synthetic with a wood look. Nice texture to the touch though.

So it's different to these ones which are real wood. With my moto z so close to coming I started to get worried about any problems this phone might have all phones have something.

I found this thread created in june for people to post problems about the moto z, and amazingly no one has posted any problems yet!! I'm so keen for this phone to arrive and finally get some hands on time with it.

Looks like harvey Norman is stocking the phone now according to today's Herald sun in the gadgets section. How do people hold the z one and two handed. Just want to know what the handling pattern is with that 5 mm thickness.

I would say the handling is no different from other 5. My wife chose to have the provided transparent bumper on as well for better grip. No gaming but lots of web browsing and social media use.

No I am actually curious when using the phone naked without style covers. I've checked many videos but noone has really touched on the subject. What's the screen on time?

I ordered two style shells from motorola. So today I get 1 style mod, silver oak Email sent, awaiting response. Hopefully for the inconvenience they will let me keep the silver oak, it looks pretty cool, I've left it in the packaging.

I know it was mentioned that the moto z on its own will get around hours screen on time. I get anywhere from 3 — 5. I only put the mod on when my battery is getting flat, then detach it as soon as it's completely drained.

So I can't give you my SOT with the mod sorry. Does the 5 mm let you hold it better. Have you changed the way you hold phones. I use cases, but the brief times I've held it without a case, the metal feels a lot grippier than other metal phones I've held.

To me it feels more secure holding the Moto z than it does the HTC 10, which is a bit slippery. Well hopefully someone else can let their pants weigh down for a day to provide the SOT with the mod.

This reviewer wasn't a fan of any of the mods. Mentions over 3 hours screen on time for the Moto z. And battery pack around 1. That's about 5 hours screen on time. All depends on the apps installed etc.

Making the phone thicker with at least mAh battery and wireless charging would be perfect and we can forget about power pack. It comes standard with the phone.

I got one as well although I'm still waiting on the crimson one. When I emailed them, they told me it would be sent out on 2 November. They've crammed a 3, mAh battery into Moto Z Play!

I expect it is on by default on the Moto Z, the Z Play however perhaps they think it's not up standard. I squeeze extra battery life by using dark themes wherever possible including the mobile Firefox addon Dark Background and Light Text v0.

It gets down to really low brightness in dark environments and is impressively bright in sunlight. The ones of interest to me are: Moto Actions Extra The Moto Z series responds to an additional action not available on the Moto G4 Plus which is that you can turn off the phone with a long-press on the fingerprint scanner.

Given how much I love being able to turn the phone on with the fingerprint scanner which isn't a button — which I really like that it's not, I'd like to be able to place it on standby with the fingerprint scanner too.

About the only negative for me is the glass back when it's naked, along with the camera bump. That said, I figure with the snap on covers, I shouldn't have to deal with either.

Have not tried other carriers yet. First of all I should add that I do not like big heavy phone covers and I actually haven't used a cover or screen protector on any of my phones since I bought a iPhone 4 in Anyway, received it today and a bit of feedback - - I ordered this when I ordered my Z Play and I was concerned about the exposed pins through the void in the cover, but figured it's not a deal breaker.

However, now that I've been using the style shell for the past week that covers the pins, I'm not real happy with that compromise anymore. I can't see how the mods would work with this cover on, so why leave the pins exposed?

Obviously this is no 'lifeproof' case, and isn't pretending to be, but at least if it took a light drop on a corner or side edge, the cover will offer some protection. This is consistent with the screen protectors advertised elsewhere, but I've also ordered a separate screen protector knowing this which hasn't arrived yet and I'm expecting the same issue.

I understand it's also usual to have a border among other phones too now, however I don't think I'll be using it. Here are some pictures anyway - http: I've put it away and don't think I'll use it, but I may change my mind in the future — it's not that bad anyway, just not exactly what I was looking for personally.

Exact same thing here. I ordered the Crimson red one, and instead got a silver oak today. My Moto z should be coming on Wednesday from Amazon uk. Just realised I need a uk power adapator because I want to use the fast turbo charge.

What have you guys who already have one found the cheapest lower adaptor to be. Check the details of your purchase first though. Quite often these sites that ship to Australia will throw in an adaptor.

To further the frustration, I tried to rectify the problem quickly in their online chat, but it turns out online chat is only for technical faults, so they told me to email. I did this and I'm getting error reports to say the email is not sending.

Yesterday afternoon I called motorola and spoke to someone with a thick accent which made communicating difficult. He didn't seem to know what a Moto Z style shell was, and seemed to think my problem was with the phone?

I understand the average person would have no idea what a mod or a style shell was, but staff should be trained up to know what it is and what is for sale on their website.

At another stage he said the style back comes with the phone. Then I had to tell him yes I got a style back with my phone, but I ordered two separate ones. He also said to contact the retailer?

I had to explain to him no I bought it separately on the Motorola website. Eventually he said he would pass it on to someone higher up but I'm not confident he understood what my problem is. I even had to end the call with "should I give you my order number" He advised me to re-send them email as well.

I hope the email sends because I have more hope the problem will get rectified via email than from my phone call. I guess you either love it or hate it, but having the pins exposed really shows everyone that you have something unique and will make people wander what the pins are for.

I think it is cool, similar in the way that the old macs were see through to show them the tech inside. I get people could be concerned that exposed pins could potentially effect mod funcationality, but I assume that the designers wouldn't leave them exposed if this was a concern.

Also you will see on the website promo images of people using the phone without a style back which suggests they expect some people to use the phone without a style back.

Clove do not send an adaptor as I found out. That is my concern to be honest, but hopefully you're correct in thinking that the pin design is tough enough to withstand exposure. Otherwise, to me it just doesn't make sense to expose them when they're unusable with the cover, and it would seem Motorola thought that too with the Style Shells and covered the pins.

Each to their own though! It says band 28 in the specs, but could this be right as I thought it was a US only version? Here's the review on the Z force. In this case, it's band Can anyone who bought Z or Z Play confirm the length of manufacturer warranty?

Is it 1 year or 2 years? I was just going by the whirlpool post: Others have pointed out that consumer law would normally cover people up to 2 years, or what would be be considered a reasonable amount of time etc.

Regarding the Moto Z Force. I sent DWI an email asking if it does support band They replied that it does. I read that Motorola were releasing a Z Force to India and other regions.

Maybe this one is one of those.. Following are the details on all the bands covered: For mobile phones, we usually require full business days for processing the orders for dispatch.

I'm thinking about buying a moto z from the motorola website. I'd be a little sceptical, there's been no official word of the device being sold outside of the US as far as I can find out.

And this message is the only mention of the phone supporting band 28, I haven't found other mentions of this. It's a shame this whole Verizon exclusive business.

This phones plastic screen and high end specs give a great prospect of longevity. The just released here X Force does not, due to one year old specs and the potentially problematic soc.

Reason I ask is the Moto G4 Plus did not and I had to enable it, works fine when enabled but I heard it wasn't enabled by default due to performance reasons. My moto z from clove is encrypted.

I haven't changed it since purchase so must of been encrypted out of the box. Just got mine today but won't have a chance to set it up until I get home. What does encrypted mean and how do I check?

Also do I want it on or off? But if you let me know how to check I'll see when I set it up whether it's on or not out of the box. That's what I mean — they don't know what they are talking about.

Moto Z Force is still a worldwide Verizon exclusive, there is no international version. Motorola makes it confusing because both phones model number start with XT Where did you read this?

If they are from Indian news site, I've read them too, before Z and Z Play were announced and released there on 4 Oct. Those "news" were just speculations that Z Force would be released in India as well, which turned out wrong.

This page may prove me wrong on 26 Nov, and I really hope it does. The price is way too low for a Z Force. Just means your phone contents are encrypted, all Android handsets with hardware powerful enough to support it should have encryption enabled out of the box.

Certainly something you want enabled, I don't think there is any way to disable it outside of rooting your phone. With the phone encrypted your personal information is safe if you lose it.

I agree with you, I can't see anywhere online an international version of the Z Force. Most likely a mix up with the Z. DWI are usually thorough with the listing of the specs — might have to look into if there is a Chinese version or something being released.

They clearly list this one as not a 32gb Z Force which most likely is the Z but the 64gb version. And I found this listing from dicksmith via google? All The Fire writes I just dont like the idea of a plastic screen even thought is shatter-proof but not scratch-proof though.

So just got my moto z today and it's awesome. But one thing is annoying me. Every review or photo of the phone you see it has this cool circle clock widget which you can expand on either side.

And it's definitely not in widgets cause I tried that. Glad your enjoying it: I believe the widget is exclusive to the droid edition. You can sideload the apk, I'm pretty sure this is the link I got it from http: That's Kogan grey importing from Verizon.

It's not available yet, so who knows whether it will happen. The DWI link has been updated. As you predicted, it's the Moto Z, 64GB version. Still a good price for the extra storage. I think it's a brilliant idea.

You put a cheap eBay glass protector on and replace it as you need to. What you're touching is glass and is cheap and replaceable from any drops, the actual phones screen will be fine. I got a response from Motorola about my style shells.

I found out the reason my email didn't send. In an email I received from Motorola there was a link for questions about my order. That link took me to an email screen with the wrong email address.

Motorola have responded saying I can keep the silver oak style shell they sent by mistake and said the two I paid for would be dispatched on the 4th. I got one of these yesterday, it appears that either they've changed the way Moto Display works, or they've disabled the breathing effect for notifications.

It's certainly fast enough, the battery is great, but had I known the notifications aren't what they used to be I probably wouldn't have got it. Changed in what way? I haven't noticed any changes between having a Moto X Play last year and the Moto Z now, but it could be because of the gap in time having Moto phones.

Yeah, in that, it doesn't do it. I get a notification, screen lights up fine, then fades, then doesn't light up again at all. Factory reset it a couple of times, no change.

In the Moto app, there's no 'keep dark' option. What version is your Moto app? Anyone have comments about how fast Moto phones get software updates since they were bought over by Lenovo? I know when Google owned them the update speed was super fast, but I saw a review that said it's pretty sketchy sounding now.

Mine lights up fine, and is quite good lighting up when I pick up my phone. Yeah but when you get a notification, it appears, fades out, does it fade back in and out multiple times?

Now I'm selling my HTC 10 i'll only have one usb c charger. Anyone know if it's possible to buy the official Australian motorola turbo charger? I can't see the option on the australian motorola website.

I've had issues with non official chargers in the past. If someone sends me a photo that's in a portrait orientation, I receive it in a landscape orientation and so I'm twisting my head to look at it.

This never happened on my old Nokia and the senders are sending them in the correct orientation, so I'm assuming it's something on here on my end. I was also thinking this. Would harvey norman also split the payment over two credit cards.

I want to do the same as a friend did it for an iPhone 7 with 3 Amex cards and they did do the split payment. From what I've read the low light is pretty average. I guess it depends on where you are coming from but I've read that its worse than the nexus 5x.

Lg g4 currently for me but having overheating issues since it went for repair for the boot loop issues. That could come back to bite your friend. In the terms and conditions it says:.

I've currently got a Moto G4 Plus running Android 6. I'd like to find out too 'cause I'm planning on buying one in the near future for the awesome battery life. I just checked on my Z Play and one picture rotated, one didn't.

I'm not fussed, it's easy enough for the person at the other end to rotate it. As for low light, it depends what you're comparing it to. All I can compare it to is my old S4 and my girlfriend's S7.

It's considerably better than the S4, but nowhere near as good as the S7. My nexus 5x is fine. I have an external battery that does usb c quickcharge. So anantech has the review of the pixel xl.

In the camera section it compares the pixel against the Nexus 6p. Samsung S7 edge and the Moto Z Play. Just noticed that Officeworks and The Good Guys now have stock of them as well as Harvey Norman, who've had them in stock for at least two weeks.

Officeworks, Moto Z Play black only available. Harvey Norman, Moto Z Play black only available. Well I pulled the trigger. I'm coming from the nexus 5x so I am still trying to get used to the size and weight.

It's been a long time since I've used a phone this big. I'm interested in doing the same just with one card would bring the price closer in line with Clove UK pricing. Do you remember how long it took you to get hold of an AMEX card?

It's only an extra 20 grams — yet it's surprising how you can notice that difference after you get used to it on a phone, then change. Not sure anyone's mentioned, you also get 2 years free of original quality Google photos back up.

Turbocharger with non-detachable cable, USB-C cable, earbuds which look very cheap and I haven't bothered using. Oh yeah, I completely forgot about that, which is weird, because while I was replying, I was looking at a new style shell Haha that's kinda funny because I was checking for new style shells when i thought i'd check up on this thread: Another feature that is missing from the Moto G4 plus is the Magnetometer electronic compass which may be handy to have if you use apps that needs to know the direction you are facing.

I've just bought a Moto Z Force so if anyone has any questions about this device feel free to pop them up and I'll do my best to answer them! Also, has anyone found a way to activate the front flash as a notification light?

Would like to still have one! Guys any recommended tempered glass protector? Couldn't find a reasonable brand on eBay and yes tend to stay away from generic ones as I have experienced that they tend to be of a lower quality.

Anyone had any luck ordering the Incipio power pack for the Moto website. Put an order 2 weeks ago but have since found out they have been out of stock. Found that out yesterday as well!

Worse, they're not even giving an estimated stock arrival time: Thanks for the heads up. I most likely won't do that though. Amazon UK has stock of the regular one but the wireless version has been out of stock for a while, even at the Incipio site in US.

Thanks for that — they reckon you can receive it by Monday 21 Nov if you request priority express post. Pretty sure the answer is yes to this one — cant remember where I read it but it makes sense that it does.

Seeing quite a few buses around in Brisbane with 'MotoMods' advertising wrapped all around the bus. Shame any advertising interest 'may' drop off when people realise how limited the purchase options are.

Anyone care to share what standard accessories Moto Z play comes with? Somebody's already done this from memory but I'm typing this reply on my Moto Z Play which I setup at lunchtime. Thanks for the help!

One more question, does Moto z play supports Qualcomm QuickCharge at all? Looking at Qualcomm website doesn't look like Moto z play found on the list of supported phones I did a quick search on Youtube and seems this Youtuber confirmed that it works with quick charge 3.

UK ones also get the black nylon back cover instead. I've also noticed that Harvey Norman now have all the mods including the incipio wireless charging battery pack online as "custom orders" with a days delivery time:.

I wouldn't use their headphones anyway unless they were like Sonys noise cancelling or the hi res ones HTC bundled in. I didn't think of Jaycar for the cables, I ordered one off amazon with the phone but that has failed to turn up and is tracking as given to courier in Scotland somewhere.

I've not risked going for 2 days yet until I get another cable or the battery pack for topping up at work just in case it doesn't quite make 2 full days.

Only Achilles heel on the battery is using my Sony SBH52 Bluetooth headset, it seems to drain the battery much faster but it's still big enough to last well beyond a single day.

I've also noticed that Harvey Norman now have all the mods including the incipio wireless charging battery pack online as "custom orders" with a days delivery time: Given that the wireless version is out of stock everywhere, I doubt the days delivery is going to be accurate Can't wait to rip it up after receiving all my accessories.

For those looking for a good screen protector, I've gone Gadget Guard. Has worked a treat. Comes with clear instructions and cleaning materials. Question to existing Moto Z Play users: Just wondering how does it fare, in terms of performance.

I am looking to get one to replace Nexus 6P — purely for the great battery, but I am not sure about the performance, especially with Android Auto in a Car. Does everyone recommend getting the phone through Clove?

Yeah that's my biggest concern. I seem to have issues re technology way too often through no fault of my own so might just suck up the difference and play it safe. Thanks for the reply though.

Picked up the moto z play from harvey norman the other night.. First impressions have been pretty good. Going from a 4. The screen is very clear and well lit. Apps load very fast, and I'm surprised at how responsive the fingerprint scanner is.

I never used it on the iphone because it was laggy and half the time wouldn't recognise my fingerprint. This scanner recognises and unlocks as quick as pressing the home button on the iphone I also love the feature of turning the display off just by putting any finger on the scanner again.

Haven't tried any mods out yet purely based on price and lack of necessity. I do like the charcoal ash style shell that was provided, adds a class of elegance haha.. Screen on time was just shy of 8 hours!

The battery also charges very fast, i never really timed it with my iphone 6 but as a guess I'd say the moto charges a little faster than the iphone, percentage wise I can't say much about the camera unfortunately as most of my photos are either of my toddler or memes I've saved, but from a few quick snaps the photos look pretty decent.

Anyway apologies for such a long post but thought I'd share a quick basic review for anyone still deciding whether to buy or not. The two big factors holding me back were whether the 5.

After 2 days of use I'm already liking the bigger display, and android is growing on me with a few features ios lacks, however there's a few small features i liked on ios that android lacks as well Overall, I'm very happy with my decision and it looks like my beloved iphone will be going on gumtree Thanks for reading if you made it this far: I haven't had issues with my moto z through Clove, though I haven't had any issues with the phone so don't know what service is like should something go wrong.

Aah phew, I've got 2 registered to get a double cashback. Was waiting for the phone to come on special. So Nougat is rolling out for droid z and droid z force.

Not sure if global Moto Z's will receive Nougat at the same time or later, but hope it's a sign it's close: Yeah, I think this was mentioned earlier in the thread too. Mine is the same but it doesn't really bother me too much.

However, I'm finding dust gets under the cover and is rubbing between the glass back and the inside of the style shell, which is causing scratches on the glass. Kind of annoying, but part of the deal I guess with this design.

On my regular moto z it appears there is a tiny gap between the style shell and phone all the way around, but it appears to be equal. I haven't had any issues with my style shells moving around.

Any ideas if the Incipio wireless battery is compatible with Samsung Qi charger? It can if you are travelling overseas within 60 days: Extremely pleased with the phone having upgraded from the Moto G4.

I have never owned a phone with such an amazing battery life. If you can afford the 'play' then go for it as it is value for money. Don't get me wrong as the G4 is also a very good phone and If I was to signal out one feature of the play over the G4 it is the much better battery life.

I called up yesterday for order placed last week and was advised this Thursday it will be dispatched directly from their supplier's warehouse. So guess just have to wait until then.

So nougat and daydream ready is now being touted by US blogs. That makes me more interested. Anyone have any tips on the best deal? Reading through it was clove internationally, or Harvey Norman locally, but most of you were talking Play I don't think that gets daydream.

Let us know how that goes. I have been waiting for a while; cannot order from Motorola website — says out of stock. If anyone is after one for a Moto Z, drop me a line, you'll get them quicker than ordering them from Hong Kong.

More likely the SoC — a Snapdragon probably isn't fast enough to be daydream certified. That was based on phone advised I got when they keep putting me on hold for several occasions and I asked a few times to confirm, and reassure me that by this Thursday I should get an update when it gets despatched.

Otherwise I will call if it doesn't happen. Looks like an import model from Japan? Can you let us know what Oz network you've got it connected to, and how it is for band support? Also, where in the US did you buy?

I'll be over there in Jan Do the shells protrude beyond the camera lens glass providing protection for the lens when the phone is placed screen up on a desk?

The official style shells, I would say they do protrude a tiny bit over the camera in terms of depth, so the camer lens won't touch the desk. But there's no protection apart from that — and no scratches so far after a week of use on mine.

But on the other side some people say it's same as G4: I wouldn't trust half the posts on the Lenovo forum. Do not buy Moto Z I got it and it is a Huge disappointment Even the JBL moto mod fails Batteries doesn't last, phone over heat it keeps on crashing even reinstalling initial image.

Do a favor to you and buy a real proven device not bad experiments with poor customer service. It's a shame you have had a bad experience with the Moto Z.

This is the first real negative post I have seen on the Z actually. My battery life is fine especially considering how thin the phone is, not to mention fast charge can give you hours more battery life in no time and you can slap on a battery mod.

I hope you either get a replacement Moto Z that your happy with, or get a refund and get a phone your happy with. My wife has not experienced the issues you mentioned so far with her Moto Z.

Have not tried mods yet. Same as Lee, this is the first negative thing I've heard about the Z or Z play. My Z play can get pretty warm when fast charging but I rarely charge the thing for more than half an hour, a small top up in the evening easily gets me through another day and it's more a precaution than necessity.

Does anyone know if there's anywhere we can buy mods in store yet? I'm in Sydney at the moment but was after the mod next week so can't really wait for the online delivery times Harvey Norman or Motorola are quoting.

Can someone confirm that the moto z play can definitely use 2 SIM cards and an SD card all at the same time? If that is the case, I'm going to try to see one in person as I think this will be my next handset, replacing my work Vodafone and personal Telstra handsets.

My UK version has the same sim tray but the second sim slot is filled in. It should take two sim cards on one side and micro SD card in the reverse. I believe the standard Moto z can only take a second sim or the micro SD.

Will see again this Thursday I have one bought from Harvey Norman and yes it can. I'm currently using 2x sims and a memory card. Did you receive the Incipio powerpack?
