Getting a real macro lens is really preferable, but hardly justified unless you are going to do a lot of close-up work. By the way, many longer telephoto even zoom lenses have a so-called "macro" function that is really just "close focus".

The mm VR micro is a very versatile lens so it is not wasted when using it for other work too in my opinion.. They will allow full AF and Metering. The mm VR would allow a degree of framing stabilisation and a reasonable working distance.
From some very limited experience Moths are less 'flighty' Sorry than Butterflies and allow a somewhat closer approach. Depending on the subject, if the animal is a bit elusive, the longer the better; you can succesfully use a mm tele lens with an extension tube to make things "easier".
The mm would worry me with being too short for a moth, unless it's dead. If you can afford it, I'd consider something like the mm or mm Sigma macro lenses not from personal experience - I'm still lusting after one.
I suspect the OS would help with framing even if you use a flash, if you're after a mobile subject. This is where experienced macrophotographers who do everything with focussing rails and stacking software start laughing at me - although depth of field is not going to be your friend with a 1cm target.
As for filling the frame with 1cm, that's tricky and into Canon 65mm MP-E territory. Short of reversing rings or bellows, I might start asking why you need to fill the frame.
If it's just about pixel count, sticking a 90mm Tamron or mm Tokina, or mm Sigma on a D and just cropping the middle off the sensor might work as well as trying to fill the frame with a D90, and might cost less than exotic longer macros although working distance will always help.

If you want anything more substantial, you have to push into the A7 territory, which is full frame, and a whole different ballgame. I wanted a mirrorless camera for the portability.

The color renderings are superb. However, it was the sharpness - i was being overly critical on this small sized zoom lens. I think that i will have this lens on for most of time out as my walk around - Zeiss and F1.
Now since I know both of those lenses are really top notch I have a hard decision to make. I would for sure rather get the Flexibility matter way more than absolute lens quality for taking photos.
You are out and about. You want to take photos of something or someone you encounter. You may want to get some wide shots to give context. You may want to get some detail shots. You may want to take a good portrait as well.
A prime like the 32mm will not be wide enough for establishing wide shots. Otherwise too much fiddling switching lenses, that also increases the risk of dust on the sensor and dropping something.

You can probably get away without the IS by instead using the fast aperture and cranking the ISO a bit. For the video stuff, I think it depends a lot on how you shoot.

I have the kit lens that came with the alpha and the sigma 30 mm. I am going on a 2 month hiking trip and any equipment i bring will be on my back so I am trying to keep the weight down.
I believe i will want a mixture of nature photography and street photography. I can take 2 small relatively lightweight lenses or one slightly heavier more versatile lens.

But lenses are a lot more expensive than Nikons but will get an adapter ring to mount some old Nikons like a fast 35mm prime. If you shoot events and conventions you need a lens like the Fiddling with primes under pressure is a pain.
If you shoot portrait work in the studio primes are great. I purchased a 2nd hand pankcake lens which is great when you want to throw it in your pocket when out for drinks and dinner.

Either the 35mm or 50mm lens will give you pretty solid results, you just will have to shoot from a bit of a distance. Any of these lenses will work with the a, so pick whichever one sounds good to you, and fits your budget!

For work, I mainly use the QX30 to take photos with 30x optical zoom photos from an extension pole mount remote shooting. Personal use of the QX1 would be totally different, rapid shot portraits of my kids, mainly.
I need to see how the lag is affected if I turn off the 2 second preview. My main concern was whether there was any reason to think the e-mount on the QX1 was in any way limited?
Lag aside, should I expect the same performance and image quality and lens compatibility? Hmmm…the rapid shot portraits might be tricky to pull off due to the delay. As for the mount?

The mm will be a go anywhere, do anything lens. The Zeiss would instead replace your kit lens that usually comes with the a So you could get the a with just the body, and then pick up the Zeiss, since it does the job of the kit mm but better.

Can I say 32mm on a mirorless crop sensor is equalvalent to 57mm? The crop factor on an APS-C camera is around 1. So a 32mm lens gives you an equivalent focal length of 48mm. Only way I would shoot with primes is if I would carry 2 cameras.
I bought the Zeiss grey market for Anyway I am spoiled by old Nikon glass. If you have a A, it is cheaper to buy the Sigma 19mm and the Sony 50mm 1. Cameras are small enough to have 2 with primes in the bag.
A cheap adapter for Nikon F lenses is good too. I do not want to rent the modem. Do I need the router too? Also, which is best TL or Arri s? I mainly use the camera for product reviews so I like to have good shots of devices and use it for video recording as well.

Kit lenses tend to be a little lower quality than primes, but are totally functional. You can definitely learn on either, the kit lens will be a bit more flexible for having some zoom range; a prime will be a bit sharper and better in low light, but will require you to be more creative in your positioning.
Neither is right nor wrong! I also purchased the Sony wide angle lense. Either of the zoom lenses we list here would work, with a bit of fiddling. The mm is good if you only want to carry a single lens with you everywhere, though is pretty big.

Wondering if new Pansonic will work on A? This would be so much lighter than Canon lens I use on 5d when my son plays soccer. Panasonic and Olympus lenses work together on a format called Micro Four Thirds, which has the benefit of smaller bodies and lenses, but the downside of a smaller sensor slightly lower image quality and some optical differences.

All in all, it sounds like for this trip it makes more sense to stay less bulky and as wide as possible. Manual focus on a super wide angle is a relative hassle. I wish the Rokinon, like old Nikkor MF lenses.
I think in general super wides can produce photos that feel a little gimmicky. It is good to have for interiors. I think you can buy the Rokinon 12mm and another A body if still for sale than the mm alone.
A is small enough that you can carry 2 bodies, That way you are more ready to shoot whatever subjects, and you minimize the risk of dust or dropping a lens. How does the compare IQ-wise with the Zeiss?

The mm has powerzoom, so you can zoom using a dial on your camera, but it has worse image distortion. Today… I learn the pictures are actually a slideshow, and there multiple samples.

Certainly the contrast is visibly better in virtually all shots. My copy is great but no compact walk-around lens is perfect — even with a Zeiss badge on. They are always a compomise. When you stop it down beyond f5.
If I want to pick out architectural or natural detail, 70mm f8 does an amazing job. If you want to do Macro, or close-up only the centre sharpness matters anyway. I never used the I have the A7 with the I find the a much better lens than the A lot sharper, produces crisper images.
They are both expensive lenses but at least the delivers for the price. While i find the sharp at the center but degrades quickly along the sides. I actually quite happy with the Sony, quite sharp and uniform.
I really hope Sony comes out with a better standard premium lens for the A series. Hmmmm… The Zeiss has been universally paned by reviewers while the Zeiss has been universally praised. You must have received a really great Zeiss and a really bad Zeiss I do not think so.
I had my lens checked and it is within the norm. Photos with the have a lot more pop and crispness. I have seen samples of the online, there is a muddy look that should not be in such an expensive lens.
It is sharp in the center but the sides become quickly unsharp. I am going to test it again on the A against an old Minolta on the A7. My bet is the old Minolta may be better in general.

Just got back from my second visit to Yellowstone, this time with a new Sony a I purchased at Costco. I found the mm very good for landscapes of course but the mm was somewhat lacking in reach compared to my Nikkor mm.
I will say that I barely used the D on this trip as the smaller footprint of the a is a huge advantage for travel. Is the mm lens they refer to above the exact same one that comes in some of the a bundles?

Between the and the 35, those are pretty different lenses! The mm would be essentially a kit lens replacement, and would do everything your existing lens does, but much better.
The 35mm would be very good in lower light, though. The mm is also much bigger on a camera than the 35mm, which becomes an issue when hiking. Either lens will take very good photos.
The mm is arguably more suited to a variety of situations especially wide-angle landscapes, but the 35mm wins major points in low light, portability, and excels at that one focal length.
It almost cannot take a bad shot. Yes, it is a bit large to carry around, I am a cyclist and simply use my iphone 6 for rough and ready pix. But the with Zeiss optics cannot be beat in my opinion. For me it would be between the mm and the mm.

You can probably find lots of photo examples on Flickr; just search for Rokinon 12mm and A or whatever camera body you will be using this on. The one thing I would say is that if you are that new to this, then buying a manual-only lens like the Rokinon with an immediate interest in astrophotography seems pretty ambitious for a new photographer.
You are right with your idea to use Flickr to see what a precise lens or camera could do. By groups or by specific search. Since its MF, will you get to hear the beep sound when turning the focusing ring?
For a nicer picture, i will try to adapt. Generally speaking, the option most people rely on is either focus peaking or zone focusing when using an MF lens. Seeking for your advise which would be the perfect lens for me as i need a sharp image quality built with OSS which ideal to for weddings events, and low light conditions.
I recently picked up the Rokinon 12mm. Besides trial and error, is there a proven method to locate the correct infinity distance marker? Then adjust the focus to a point where something at exactly 3 feet is in focus, and so is everything beyond that.
That should be your infinite focus. I have the sigma 30mm f2. My favorite of all of them is the 50mm 1. I love both the Sigma and the Sony Sigma is mounted by default as it is much smaller and easier to put in bag and carry, but I use the 50mm quite often.
I use the mm zoom sometimes, but IQ is not that great as with the 50mm or the Sigma 30mm. I am currently waiting for a set of E mount extension tubes, I hope they will be more usable for much less money than the Sony 30mm Macro.
You seem to have missed entirely that the Pro zooms from Olympus are totally weather sealed whilst the Panasonic upgraded offerings are not. This is a major advantage for those of us working under adverse weather conditions.
I would also like to add that I disagree that people are served well by purchasing the so called normal focal length lens i. Then they can marry that purchase with moderate telephoto such as the various 45mm offerings.
For the prime lens shooter this means they can handily handle a wide assortment of shooting issues, from environmental portraiture to indoor events, travel and the like.
If a zoom is required then the top notch olympus can do the work and beyond of those used by the prime shooter. This all of course depends on taste and preference. My opinions are based on a once former lifetime when I managed a couple of camera stores in the good old days and sold hundreds of cameras.
I also took my training as a photo technologist. The camera comes with a tiny flash and no hot shoe to add a better flash which is ok with the kit lens but a problem with the lens because of the shadow the lens casts when the flash is used.
Recently, after less than 2 years with the lens, I sent in the camera and lens to Sony because my images were no longer sharp. I was told the sensor might need to be recalibrated.
Really really great article! Sony is so expensive. For videos, you want to prefocus before you shoot, and then record the scene! As in, they intend to no longer support them, possibly including not allowing their service to work on them.
