Doesn't Android already have that in Allo? And it's available on iPhone. The whole what messenger to use thing just seems odd. Generally iphone users aren't going to want to download a new chat app unless it offers something they give a shit about that iMessage doesn't offer.
People already have FaceTime and know what it is. I honestly didn't even know what Duo was until you mentioned it; I've been making due with Snapchat when I want to videochat with friends.
It would be nice if Google could actually stick to a single messaging platform for more than a year at a time too. Good point, I have used Duo a little bit since it came out and it has worked pretty well so far, but I guess we will never know when Google will pull the plug for no reason.

It would be significantly more successful among Android users, but iPhone users would remain generally oblivious of it unless given a reason to switch. Well, iPhone users see when other iPhone users are typing, and the messaging is generally faster and more reliable over iMessage.
It's not just the color. Yes, it is indeed a thing. I have spoken to a few people who have remarked that my messages show up in green. My mom asked me how she can fix it because a friend of hers told her that the messages were supposed to be blue, or there is a problem.
I'm proud to be green, cause otherwise I'd be using an apple device. Stop the obnoxious behavior of thinking you're superior to anyone else for using Android or iOS. You have a preference to how things should look and be done, and have made a purchase based on that.

Literally everyone I know with a smartphone uses WhatsApp as their primary message platform. People who don't use social media or even have facebook accounts. It's at least as ubiquitous as SMS used to be.
Americans use imessage or SMS?! It's unlimited with even the cheapest cell plans in the US, while data was severely limited after smartphones and 4G took off. We only recently got unlimited plans back, and the companies—especially Verizon, biggest carrier in the country— hate it.
So, with unrestricted texting, better messaging solutions like WhatsApp never really became a thing here in the US. People really don't like change and effort. Some of us use them I personally like Telegram, but ultimately they're an unfortunate secondary due to the lack of local market penetration.
The closest we've got here is solely because Facebook is ubiquitous: FB Messenger is the single most used messaging app in the US, and even comes preinstalled on carrier-contracted phones.
Apple gets around this by having iMessage Apple's only SMS application automatically send messages over data when the recipient is also using an iDevice, be it an iPhone, iPad or Mac.
It's something completely seamless, and iPhone users don't have to install another app. Google tried to do the same thing with Hangouts, but you can probably figure out what they did with that plan.
Long story short, SMS needs to suffer some serious crashing and burning or get completely phased out by carriers to make an alternative messaging solution truly standard in the US.
I had no idea what iMessage was until I was given an iPhone in work. Everyone including iPhone users are on Whatsapp because it's cross platform. What a ridiculous argument.

I'm literally left out of a large group chat with my friends because SMS doesn't support group chat with more than 10 people. Someone has to reach out to me separately and invite me to group activities because I'm left out of the loop because of my phone.
I otherwise love my S7 except for its lack of iMessage and Facetime. I own a phone so that I can connect with my friends, and those two programs are some of the most popular ways to do it.

They were saying the iPhone X screen looks much better than Galaxies and Pixels. They start talking about a negative aspect but somehow end the topic by explaining why it is ok.
Android phones don't get that benefit. If all the flaws they mentioned existed on Pixel, it'd have been butchered. I believe all OLED screens on the market are pentile. It's just got to the point where the PPI is so high we can't see them anymore compared to the days of galaxy s3 where it just clearly shows and the screen was crazy super saturated.
I think in fairness the days of people banging on about Pentile are long gone I believe when note 3 was launched? Before that people were hoping for true 3 subpixel per pixel arrangement. Ofc there were also arguments about whether P is necessary for a phone because HTC One X screen was just nuts when it came out and it had P screen.
Also apple is very good at rendering text to hide low res screens. They use a different edge gray scale then windows and I assume they use something similar on iOS to make text look good. Some smartwatch screens are RGB they don't have to worry about the burn-in as much because they're on so infrequently.
It was a big problem with low resolution screens. A p pentile display does not give as smooth a image as a p lcd screen, however a full hd or higher res screen gives a good image, even with pentile.
When doing anything lineart-heavy e. Rez Infinite, certain things in Tilt Brush you can absolutely tell. Yeah, I remember those days. I also remember some people mocking Apple and saying they'd end up using amoled and everyone's opinion on amoled and high contrast displays would change, and that Apple would probably do something stupid like call it 'super retina' to help get people on board.

Samsung does crazy saturation on their phone displays. My biggest issue is how lenient he was on Face ID. He confirmed every worry I had about how inconvenient it would be to use, and then ended with "but it's fine," and said that the fact that it doesn't work in some lighting is basically equivalent to how fingerprint scanners don't work with wet fingers.

It is what it is though. The note 8 also has special subpixel rendering, and not only that, has a higher PPI than the iPhone X. I can point out many issues with iOS which these reviewers just gloss over.
It feels like they are afraid Apple won't give them review devices if they are too harsh or something. Take FaceID for example, even the most glowing reviews mentioned its better than TouchID gen 1 but not as good as gen 2 which it is replacing.
However, they just said it will get better and you have to adjust a bit and didn't find that's much of an issue. When you evaluate some technology, most common metric is "Is it atleast as good as tech its replacing?
I can go on. I understand that any phone you buy right now, you are making a compromise but these reviewers just glosss over that stuff if its iPhone. I got an iPhone for work last week and figured that I'd enjoy the refined experience, even if I couldn't justify paying the price for one myself.
But instead, I've found that almost everything takes a little more time and is a little less convenient. Combine that with how much money they've been pouring into AI dev, and I would be shocked if Google Assistant wasn't miles better.

There's rabid fans on each end. The average iPhone user isn't as much of a pretentious asshole as what you'll find in the Apple subreddit, they just want a phone that's familiar and works and is easy to troubleshoot.
It's people like my parents and siblings that I don't want to have to explain launchers and pros and cons of every device to. In fact, being surrounded by tech people so much, I constantly have to hear people complaining about Apple products to the point I'm just sick of it.
Everyone has to justify why their purchase is so much better. Just let people enjoy their phones. Yeah I don't get the "Android users are smart and iOS users are dumb sheep".

They just use their phone and show you cool things they found on it. Like when my friend discovered the S8 has split screen he was so excited. Or my friends discovering screen recording on iOS A lot of the people I've met that brag about their phones or talked about how bad Android was also happened to be pretty shit people in general and a lot of the Android diehards tend to be nerds Like the awkward kind.
Many people's only experience with Android is the dirt cheap phone they when they broke their iPhone to hold them over, or similar.
