Although I wanted to provide a little extra info to clarify things for the future. It can also be a provisioning issue. On Tmobile One plus international but still slow hotspot persists.

Switching to data-only will be a bad investment. The thing is that the device lacks some of the newer technologies that have been implemented on the T-mobile network. One plus one mobile price in india and features Android now informs the carrier and has been informing them if you are tethering or not tethering. While a lot of people still make cellular voice calls, many others rely on VoIP options — like Skype — or just use text-based chat to keep in touch with others.

Get connected for just $3/month.

It was the best thing ever. I still don't completely understand it but it is no conspiracy or anything.

Got Questions?

I believe something bigger happened. Could it be tmobile is killing non-branded tmobile phones hotspot speeds? You have a valid point. I still don't completely understand it but it is no conspiracy or anything. I agree, for people who can live with the 5GB limit. These are the plans that are already there for tablets right now since you are not able to use a tablet line sim card in a phone. Now as far as why you get slower speeds on hotspot vs using your phone normally.

28.02.2018 - I am well aware of Cyanogen mod and the original oneplus. Interestingly they are releasing this on Wednesday which Google update day so may be Google Voice might be part of this! There would be no specific reason except that the network cannot detect what you are using. I will look but as far as I can see there is simply a pervasive issue with tethering and that for some reason tethering is kicked.

07.02.2018 - And also do some phones have a single modem chip, or are there like multiple chips that control different aspects of things ie: This tool uses JavaScript and much of it will not work correctly without it enabled. All though to be certain I would look at what band the device is connecting to with its service mode and then do the same with the S7 edge. Overall they have done really well with carefully crafting quality phones usually except with they put on the screens upside down. If me and you speak band 12 than we can communicate, which is all well in good when we are up close. I have many phones available to me. Once again, this is not an alternative for voice plans.

Project fi and republic uses TMO network or sprint as the network provide. Not perfect but which network is. I thought T mobile gave you MB per month free on your mobile device for free — like your ipad?

Finally, an Un-carrier move that I like. Are there family plans for this? Forgive me if I overlooked it in the article. I bet binge on would come with all of the above plans.

These plans suck ass. You have to be a dumbass to get that one. You can make a lot of voip calls with that data allowance. I have been using Google voice for years and using my ipad as a phone with Google voice for about a year and have never paid a dime.

The numbers are free too and I have been able to nab some good numbers. All of that is subject to change of course. What is not good for the goose can be good for the gender.

Will these plans allow for unlimited tethering at 4g speed as well? That would hurt their service for other customers in the area. As long as Google wants to keep offering thst service, you could use it over one of these plans and save a few bucks a month.

I do it now on an GSM ipad. It works as good as having another phone. My privacy is worth more to me than a few bucks a month. But how much data do those calls use?

I use about 2, minutes monthly between personal and business use. Once again, this is not an alternative for voice plans. Now to answer your question. If you are not heavily using streaming apps and not many attachments in your work email.

You should be fine since the average email takes about 80kb and a min voip call is about 35kb. Ok but it means you keep your number for texts but if someone wants to call you on that number, what happens?

I bet the same would apply in this case. This is not for everyone and mind you, this plan is not to encourage people to switch from their normal plans to data only plan. This is for people that have other means of making calls and want data only.

Well if you want to switch from Simple Choice to this new plan and port out your number to keep it, you will pay ETFs, only access SMS and lose your number. Kind of weird, no?

This is a good idea and I always wondered why carriers, especially T-Mobile never offered a data only plan. I think the prices need tweaked, it may not be worth it at certain levels, but its a great start and one more option.

They should tweak it like this: Just wondering since Binge on has came out my data usage had dropped like crazy, went from using 10gb down to about 3gb.

How much would they charge per minute? My guess is they would just not allow you to make any voice calls. This would stop the risk from overages from getting a call.

I agree, but they never will. Tablets are more then likely to use my data then your phone, so t-mo will lose more money this way. I have a feeling it would boost tablet sells during the promo.

No calling is included so you have to use a 3rd party service. This plan sounds ridiculous. Plus with data stash, any unused high speed data gets rolled over for up to a year.

Free talk, text, and data to and from US, Canada, and Mexico. These are the plans that are already there for tablets right now since you are not able to use a tablet line sim card in a phone.

These plans do not get that same discount. Guys i think this will tie into Numbersync feature. Interestingly they are releasing this on Wednesday which Google update day so may be Google Voice might be part of this!

Why would people want Google wiretapping, recording, transcribing, and indexing all of their conversations? Nope, usually you only need like 40kbps down and up to do a VoIP call. This doesnt seems to make any sense.

I got 16GB of hotspot now and unlimited data on my phone and unlimited voice too. Why do you want to do this data only? Their prices constantly change and become more confusing.

Might as well stop calling yourselves the uncarrier, because you just sold less for more. It does not include BingeOn, but it does include Music Freedom. Data is available in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Other countries is doubtful. The data is capped at 5gb but you can buy multiple packs and stack them. Can tell you for a fact that Binge on is inculded, the amount of streaming that I have done with it, would of ran out of data in days.

Does not include data stash. When choosing a plan, this one is located under daily plans, not monthly plans. Under daily plans will be an option for days.

Good luck with Tmobile Data plan its worthless. The speed is slower than the old 1XRTT from sprint. Seems like putting multiple devices on a family plan would be way cheaper?

I guess it depends on your needs. But promos are better. Something to smile about! It was the best thing ever. I loved that plan. These plans seems expensive for what they are. I mean the data buckets look the same as Cricket for the price, but Cricket has unlimited talk and text as well as the better ATT network.

Technically, you can already get this from Tmo. They sell data-only plans as an option for the hearing disabled. These plans are for people that are legally deaf or hard of hearing only. Only those people will qualify.

Wow glad I got in over 2 years ago. So generally speaking most modern phones have everything included on the SoC System on a Chip. Now as far as why you get slower speeds on hotspot vs using your phone normally.

The answer is mainly that the carriers put hotspot users behind regular users in terms of priority. There are also other variables at play as well, one of which being that your phone is not a router.

It can only generate a weak signal due to power and heat constraints. Now as far as band support goes the best way to look at it is like this, bands are like human languages.

If me and you speak band 12 than we can communicate, which is all well in good when we are up close. I honestly think T-Mobile is throttling the data somehow.

To be totally honest. The phone is not prioritized at all for their network. I have OPO and the tethering is broken but this was not always the case. I believe something bigger happened. I am usually not one for conspiracies.

I also don't think T-mobile would go out of their way to throttle customers with non-t-mobile branded devices as there is nothing in it for them to gain. Chances are they may be doing upgrades that effect devices with legacy support for certain functions.

If anything like that is happening, in which case it is up to the OEM to ether support said upgrades through software updates and hardware implementation for future devices.

It can also be a provisioning issue. However, everything I just said is a guess unless we were to troubleshoot your specific case. I was saying I have an OPO. I rain some tests months ago on it.

I believe the data is being throttled to 2G. I have many phones available to me. There is something unusual about it. It seems to be degraded through artificial means. There is no reason for the tethering to be degraded.

But the OPO running cyanogen does not work. Cyanogen is the official and original software for it. If you a anything beyond the OPO you have Oxygen. In any case the data to me appears to be throttled as if it thinks it is a phone sim trying to be put into a hotspot, which probably won't operate correctly.

Each different data set has a different quality. Hmm that is quite interesting. Seeing as it works fine including on the BLU Studio XL2 which is not a T-mobile phone I would be willing to wager it is something to do with one plus's device.

I am well aware of Cyanogen mod and the original oneplus. The thing is that the device lacks some of the newer technologies that have been implemented on the T-mobile network.

Since you have all the devices avaiable to you I am actually a bit curious to why you do not use the s7 edge as a example which does support all bands being used by T-mobile and technologies like 4x4 MIMO and etc.

What is probably happening is that the one plus phone is connecting to a frequency that is slightly congested. Since hotspot data is not treated equally to normal cell phone data on the network you automatically de-prioritized.

Since the one plus then can not connect to a less congested signal you then stuck with the slower speeds. That would basically be my hypothesis on whats going on. All though to be certain I would look at what band the device is connecting to with its service mode and then do the same with the S7 edge.

If the S7 edge is CA to 2 bands or connecting to a different tower or something along those lines it would explain the drastic discrepancies and be a hardware issue of the older device that can not be fixed.

Although I could be wrong since you said there were other old phones that ran faster but this is just a guess. I would just use another phone to avoid the headaches. T-Mobile has a very complicated throttling system.

I still don't completely understand it but it is no conspiracy or anything. I honestly have no idea what the specific problem is with the OnePlus One's. But regardless most of their own model phones are not really up-to date.

Most phones don't even have band 12 let alone be able to use US Cellular to connect a roaming call. OnePlus phones are really great phones. I think one reason OnePlus One has done really well is because their phones are well tested in the industry and on Android channels.

Overall they have done really well with carefully crafting quality phones usually except with they put on the screens upside down. So, they released an update to them to flip it so the jelly scrolling looked funny as it was pulling both sides of the screen the wrong way in perspective which was not a problem for most.

Jelly scrolling is a thing that makes the scrolling appear more natural to the human eye. Anyhow, did you try to adjust the frequencies from auto to a specific one? Also, why would I use an example of my S7 Edge when that works perfectly.

The OPO is the one with the screwy tethering which in my opinion is almost absolutely throttling. But I have no proof available. There would be no specific reason except that the network cannot detect what you are using.

Among other things they use a lot of very complex tricks to keep peoples plans unlimited but things like tethering or video are throttled heavy. Also, when you purchase hotspot data specifically with a hotspot device the quality of that data is different as well and is more of a premium.

The tethering data itself comes from the same data as your on device data.

Only those people will qualify. Wow glad I got in over 2 years ago. Open this up to ALL your product offerings and then it may be interesting, but this??? According to the WSJ, this is a plan that was made originally for deaf people, but any customer is able to get it, but it is only available in-store, not online.

But it was very easy to do. How is this beneficial to me to go all data? You can use something like Google Voice and help Google and Facebook enslave the world, what do we care! First time poster, long time reader.

Hopefully I can revive this post: For me cost is very important. I know there are great family plans, but I do not have anyone that can join me on one of those plans. I have lived with a data component of MB that is capped.

This means that my data ends at MB! At home I use hi-speed unlimited Internet over cable. I still have the same phone number. I tested the line and calls do not reach me. They reach a message.

I can receive and send texts. I believe this will be a better plan for me at half my previous billing rate because I use Google Voice for calls or other voip services. Switching plans over the phone with customer service was a hassle.

This data only plan is a Simple Choice plan. My previous plan was a Simple Starter plan. Additional benefits to me with this data only plan include unlimited slower speed data after the 2 GB of hi-speed LTE.

Another benefit is that I will now get to use my data when I am in Canada or Mexico. Yea, wondering if this includes free international 2G roaming. If so, this could be great! VN, your obsession with me is unhealthy.

Basically defeats the point of having a cell phone. It shut down one week after I signed up. Anything 6GB and above. I know, but I mean out of these plans specifically. There will be qualifying plans and I doubt these qualify.

Ahhhh very, very good observation. Google Voice is totally free for US calls. They have super low rates for international calls. Please explain and elaborate in greater details…. What about using Google hangouts?

You have a valid point. If you use Google Hangouts to make your voice calls, these plans are not bad. I was wondering the same thing. Switching to data-only will be a bad investment. Get a virtual number.

They should offer unlimited data for tablets for a reasonable price. VoLTE works over data, right? Or, do they consider it voice-only and no data is used? The new tablet plans a great.

J Cav the Great. Does VoIP take up alot of data? How about this T-mobile? They do compress the video data but it is not zero rated. How do I get this plan? Please and thank you.

Where can I find this plan?! After the second line adding an extra line from the regular plans is cheaper. I rain some tests months ago on it. I believe the data is being throttled to 2G.

I have many phones available to me. There is something unusual about it. It seems to be degraded through artificial means. There is no reason for the tethering to be degraded.
