Pressing the power button twice let's me quickly open up any of the other apps. I don't mind it being customisable, it just shouldn't overwrite it including asking me what to do unexpectedly.
I can't imagine any scenario where I need quick access to two different camera apps simultaneously. It never does things unexpectedly. You do it once, hit "always", and it goes away until you go deep into settings and change that.
Until you install a new app that wants to use it, and then it asks you what you want to do the next time you use it. I always press camera and always press always.

Say you click a link on your email app you are forced to use Safari. With Android you get the option to use any browser app you want. Open links in any browser you want, by default.

I hate that everything is either frosted white or solid white with rounded edges. I love how I can make everything amoled black with an android phone. That's exactly how I feel.
Their keyboard also pisses me off to no end as well. Exactly - they make fantastic hardware and low-level software e. But their high-level user-facing software is awful.
The third party support though is great - stuff like BetterTouchTool and iTerm2 have no equivalent on Linux or Windows yet for example, and I really like having a unix terminal environment without the headaches of running Linux as a desktop OS.
Half the UI has no visual feedback, which is compounded by a lack of contrast and differentiation - I constantly found myself having to tap a button multiple times because apparently my finger landed just outside the invisible hitbox.
And I swear their designers have no idea what "contrast" is or why it's important in user interfaces and text It felt like a lot of app developers realized the problems with Apple's guidelines, but still want to make it look like iOS, and they end up implementing an inconsistent mix of the two.
Just the "Don't have to use iTunes" bit is amazing. I can't even explain how many peoples' iPhones and iPods and other Apple devices I've set up for people which got reset within seconds because they used a second computer to sync their data.
I have an iPod that I use in my car, that has zero music stored on it through iTunes as I use Spotify exclusively. However it randomly plays music that used to be on it.
Apart from being able to make full phone backups, that software is good for nothing. It's as if Satan had a direct hand in developing that program. You can't do direct transfers of data, but everything goes to iCloud, including full system backups, and photos go there as well, and can then be accessed and downloaded from the web.
I don't think iCloud photos is as nice as Google Photos, but it gets the job done. You can retrieve your music collection from your Android device if you lose it for any reason, but you can't on iOS.
Big plus for me. With Android I can just copy and paste. Yeah the iPad is a really good tablet, but I can't stand iTunes to transfer media. I use an Nvidia Shield tablet and it works really well with any media files I've tried.
No issues with the tablet. Yea I was thinking about that K1 or the Nexus 9. The K1 has microSD card support but may not get Nougat. It's a shame there aren't newer stock-Android tablets Pixel C is twice the price.
This one makes me sad. There's really no good alternative. Airdroid and Portal are nowhere near as fast. It's still easier than iTunes, in the sense that it's actually possible to manage files over usb, but it's very unpleasant and staggeringly slow on most devices I've tried.
On the other hand, since Android has actual user filesystem access, I can use other tools like network shares that work just fine. Custom ROMs and future support. Thanks to the developer community I can enjoy Android 7.

This is more of a bad point of Android IMO rather than a good one. Apple also stops support at some point. With a correctly picked Android device the support continues beyond what manufacturer has to offer.
The custom ROMs will come for it in time I'm sure! That's one of the things that's put me off it and the its design. I don't like the curvier edges as much I like the straight curves of the R4P.
As someone who likes to change devices fairly regularly, being able to switch between manufacturers is great. Waiting on an yearly device release from Apple would drive me nuts, especially if not much has changed between models.

I did this when I travelled recently. The second slot is a hybrid one that I use for SD card but I used it for my secondary sim while travelling. For me, I do quite a bit of travelling, and I get prepaid sim cards just in case.

This could be compared to other services like iCloud, but they don't offer such great productivity services as G Suite, for instance. Yeah, maybe it's not better than Apple's but it's a billion times better than Microsoft's really nice.
There are apps for everything, and even if a lot of them are crapware for whatever reason, there is another huge bunch of useful, well designed, and performance-focused apps. I hate developing for Android, but I love how the community is excited for any dev releasing an app.
If I am bored with one layout, I will just move things around a bit and it feels fresh. Can't do that on iOS as it's always top down and covers the whole wallpaper. Setting default apps, file system, openness, flexibility, customize to my heart's content and Android handles notifications like a boss.

I never saw any slowdowns on this phone in my two weeks using it, which is really a sight to behold. Apps launch lightning fast, and multitasking is a dream. As mentioned before, the headphone jack is still a thing in the OnePlus ecosystem, which most users will be happy to hear — using headphones on this device is a good but standard affair.
One bright spot is the built-in speaker, which gets pleasantly loud without overdoing it in any one aspect. Nonetheless, this phone did a better job than most, providing loud audio that was still clear enough.
One aspect of this device we were especially concerned about is battery life. The 5T uses the same 3, mAh battery as the OnePlus 5, and we were worried the larger display would use more juice.
Thankfully, our results have turned out pretty great, resulting in about five and a half hours of screen-on time on average. Josh, in particular, was able to get a few days of 7. Background bokeh is still possible on the OnePlus 5T and we found that there was plenty more behind the subject when compared to similar modes in the original OnePlus 5 and the Pixel 2.
The front facing camera has also changed, resulting in a tighter frame that required us to really reach out with the phone to put more into the frame while taking selfies or live streaming. Without using portrait mode, hitting the 2X button on the OnePlus 5T still zooms into the frame, but the image is obviously a crop of the original sensor.
If you go looking for it though, 5T photos have some obvious post-processing compared to the sharper optically zoomed images taken with the original OnePlus 5. Despite a dedicated low light camera, the 5T left quite a bit to be desired in ultra low-light circumstances.
We tested this new camera in quite a variety of low light situations, and while it is certainly decent for what it is, it often gets trounced by the algorithmic processing of phones like the Google Pixel 2.

One such situation is 4K video recording, which has been given EIS for better stabilized footage. The video itself is pretty clear and the shakiness has improved from the previous generation camera, so we can call that a win in the camera column.
One thing we did notice was pretty good quality audio capture, so if you are a vlogger or one who enjoys doing Facebook or Instagram live streams, your voice will sound loud and adequately clear to your audience.
I personally would have preferred the company kept the telephoto lens for clearer zoom, but some may have a different opinion on this subject. It will be interesting to see if OnePlus keeps this setup for the OnePlus 6 or tries something else.
The UI remains quite similar to the OnePlus 5, with a few changes that help set it apart. There are a couple of new features worth discussing. While the feature worked a majority of the time, there were instances in which the camera did not recognize me for some unknown reason.
A software update released between our initial review and now seems to have largely addressed the issue. And a final note on security — Face Unlock is mainly used for unlocking the device whereas OxygenOS will often default to more secure options when necessary eg registering security features in apps.
While Parallel Apps are useful for those that run personal and public accounts on apps like Instagram and Snapchat, most users won't find it exceptionally helpful. A new feature which has made its way to the 5T is Parallel Apps.
This feature essentially creates cloned instances of apps that require a login, allowing you to be signed in to multiple accounts at once. Still, having the option is much better that omitting it.
One other change made to the software is an updated reading and gaming mode. While we saw these features in the OnePlus 5, the company has expanded upon them to apply different levels of contrast to help enhance the experience.
The addition of adjustable contrast levels for text against the background are definitely appreciated. For the most part, using this interface yields an experience not far from stock vanilla Android; however, OnePlus has added in just enough to make the experience feel fresh.

I guess buying an iPhone would take to long to get used to. And I love tinkering around with phones. None of that on iPhone. Even jail breaking is limited.

I've been really tempted to get an SE lately, but this is what's stopping me. Having a file explorer built in and being able to use it like any other PC. Then there's the limitless customization, feature packed phones wireless charging for instance, and the community built around the devices with extended support long after the OEM has dropped it.
Customization of Android, innovation and competition from manufacturers, is what makes the ecosystem better each day. The fact we have a dedicated back button, hard or soft keys, it doesn't matter.
If only it were consistent. Every app can be different. In Feedly, it seems to open the menu, others go back in their card stack, and some do the right thing and go back to the app that took you there.
I appreciate the button, but don't always know what it's going to do. The amazing google integration: I'm impressed every time by how Google Now knows what kind of information I want and what kind of articles I'd like to read.

I never saw any slowdowns on this phone in my two weeks using it, which is really a sight to behold. Apps launch lightning fast, and multitasking is a dream. As mentioned before, the headphone jack is still a thing in the OnePlus ecosystem, which most users will be happy to hear — using headphones on this device is a good but standard affair.
One bright spot is the built-in speaker, which gets pleasantly loud without overdoing it in any one aspect. Nonetheless, this phone did a better job than most, providing loud audio that was still clear enough.
One aspect of this device we were especially concerned about is battery life. The 5T uses the same 3, mAh battery as the OnePlus 5, and we were worried the larger display would use more juice. Thankfully, our results have turned out pretty great, resulting in about five and a half hours of screen-on time on average.
Josh, in particular, was able to get a few days of 7. Background bokeh is still possible on the OnePlus 5T and we found that there was plenty more behind the subject when compared to similar modes in the original OnePlus 5 and the Pixel 2.
The front facing camera has also changed, resulting in a tighter frame that required us to really reach out with the phone to put more into the frame while taking selfies or live streaming.
Without using portrait mode, hitting the 2X button on the OnePlus 5T still zooms into the frame, but the image is obviously a crop of the original sensor. Despite a dedicated low light camera, the 5T left quite a bit to be desired in ultra low-light circumstances. We tested this new camera in quite a variety of low light situations, and while it is certainly decent for what it is, it often gets trounced by the algorithmic processing of phones like the Google Pixel 2.

It seems that the secondary lens only activates and backs up the main shooter in only the darkest of situations, which most users with even a little bit of photography knowledge would probably avoid in the first place.
Ultimately, the promises of the 20 MP backup camera are technically sound, but prove to be largely unrealized, which is a shame because the camera does pretty well in other situations.
One such situation is 4K video recording, which has been given EIS for better stabilized footage. The video itself is pretty clear and the shakiness has improved from the previous generation camera, so we can call that a win in the camera column.
One thing we did notice was pretty good quality audio capture, so if you are a vlogger or one who enjoys doing Facebook or Instagram live streams, your voice will sound loud and adequately clear to your audience.
I personally would have preferred the company kept the telephoto lens for clearer zoom, but some may have a different opinion on this subject. It will be interesting to see if OnePlus keeps this setup for the OnePlus 6 or tries something else.
The UI remains quite similar to the OnePlus 5, with a few changes that help set it apart. There are a couple of new features worth discussing. While the feature worked a majority of the time, there were instances in which the camera did not recognize me for some unknown reason.
A software update released between our initial review and now seems to have largely addressed the issue. And a final note on security — Face Unlock is mainly used for unlocking the device whereas OxygenOS will often default to more secure options when necessary eg registering security features in apps.
While Parallel Apps are useful for those that run personal and public accounts on apps like Instagram and Snapchat, most users won't find it exceptionally helpful. A new feature which has made its way to the 5T is Parallel Apps.
This feature essentially creates cloned instances of apps that require a login, allowing you to be signed in to multiple accounts at once. Still, having the option is much better that omitting it.
One other change made to the software is an updated reading and gaming mode. While we saw these features in the OnePlus 5, the company has expanded upon them to apply different levels of contrast to help enhance the experience.
The addition of adjustable contrast levels for text against the background are definitely appreciated. For the most part, using this interface yields an experience not far from stock vanilla Android; however, OnePlus has added in just enough to make the experience feel fresh.
The Shelf is still a good place to stash some widgets so that they are not covering up any glorious background you may be using. These backgrounds can be drawn from a gallery of photos actually taken on OnePlus phones.
Dark and light modes can completely change the way you look at OxygenOS, while accent color options show that OnePlus pays attention to the small details that can give users a personalized experience.
There is no over-abundance of features or many redundancies to OxygenOS — and for an interface that has come of age fairly quickly in the last couple of generations, we find Oxygen to be just that: Overall, the 5T is a healthy addition to the OnePlus family.
