Its not cheap but not really expensive as far as software packages go, have you bought any software in a while? I have nothing against paying for software, this is just more than I expected.

I agree it could probably be cheaper. There are plenty of tools to transcode things. But it looks like this isn't true support, this is just more formats for Google Music to transcode to MP3.

On the other hand, if Google actually is allowing apple lossless directly -- and streaming that to the phone -- I'm interested. Agree its not true support. I'd love it, but most people wouldn't want to deal with the pausing or extra buffering time though which is probably why everyone just goes with the much smaller MP3 container.

Can't imagine that would be significant -- it's certainly less bandwidth than, say, streaming video. I suspect it's more that they don't want to spend the extra money on the extra bandwidth if not enough people care.

And I could understand if they transcoded it server-side, especially if they took it to something more efficient than MP3 -- or even if they did that by default, and let me get the flac files to my device if I want.

Yup, if you have the Chrome app installed, you can even make a shortcut in the taskbar for it on Windows at least and it'll open in a new window designated from that taskbar shortcut, see here.

I would love an optimized google music and youtube app for windows. No more flash or half working html5, media buttons, lightweight and way faster. For media buttons; This extension works for Windows Chrome.

Not sure if it's crossplatform though, It doesn't seem to play nice with my mac work computer. I'd prefer to be able to use Play Music as my primary music player at home. But if it's in a browser window and that window isn't focused, media keys won't work.

It also works with just about every other web music service, including YouTube. I think it manages to also pause the music playing when you start a video. Grab gMusic from the Windows Store.

It's a great little Google Play Music app. Google music is limited to 20k songs. Do you know how google music manager handles larger libraries? I hope I can at least pick what to skip.

Then you're part of whatever small percentage that I am as well. It doesn't let you skip and it doesn't let you match and then have the matched songs not count towards the 20k. So you have to manually add each folder to the program.

If you have W8, download GMusic it's free from the Microsoft metro app store, it is pretty damn fantastic. The weird thing is, I had to uninstall, download, and reinstall the music manager to get this to work mac.

I'd have thought that it would be updated more often, or automatically. Now, c'mon Google -- do some better matching so all my old DRM'd itunes music will finally show up in my account.

It always seems to match all but songs on every album. Also, this is unrelated, but i accidentally uploaded a. I think they updated file formats for their book uploads too!

I'm not sure when the added it, but it looks like they support uploading 24 bit FLAC now. It's still transcoded down to MP, but at least it doesn't choke on the files anymore.

Weird, I've been uploading both these formats for a long time When the play music app still had the old UI. Maybe i misunderstood the post title and what's written in https: I dont believe they are getting converted, rather the uploader detects the song and simply unlocks access via Gmusic to a pre-existing kbps MP3 version already on their server as a music match to avoid uploading and storing duplicate song data.

So - by logic - if i wanted like to test your theory i should upload the most obcure black metal or some noise i could record: Anyways, if it's like you say, then the music wouldn't be lossless: I dont think google music is the best solution for lossless audio, but myself i dont really see anything wrong with kbps mp3.

To each their own. Ive uploaded some things that were not in the google library: I think the gmusic library built for each person is a combination of stored files from uploads and symbolic links to copies of music from their main library for purchased or matched songs.

Yeah, i know i'm picky, but i'm very sensitive about my music collection and i'd prefer to wait until they pull out some serious lossless music cloud service, rather than just settling for mp3.

I don't know how I feel about those still, on one hand I though it was kind of cool, but on the other hand I can't see the entire picture: Now if only the album art I've added to My Library would show up consistently on my phone, that'd be great.

Just about the last problem I have with Google Music. Can someone tell me how to actually do this? I'd love to stream all my music from home onto my phone. Whats the benefit of uploading to google music, if you have play anywhere?

There are some pretty decent reasons to do so. I've never had that issue, but somebody else mentioned that 24 bit FLAC support is newly supported as well. Are you trying to upload 24 bit FLAC and have you tried more recently?

I stopped even trying with flac files, but they're still on there. It plays the first few seconds, and then almost seems to remember that it shouldn't be playing them and skips to the next song.

I remember that I ended up with a bunch of duplicates and "unknown track, unknown artist" in my online list, but because my library is fairly large, I thought it would be easier to just select all, delete and just redownload all my purchased content.

Does Google Play have these issues? Ok, now I'm annoyed. Reading more carefully, looks like it might be transcoded as well? That's some odd labeling, though. Now the only thing they need is to bring this to more than 1 or 2 countries.

I understand that All Access requires licensing but isn't Google Music basically just an online file sync? Why can't they bring that over? I realise this post is old, but it's worth noting that Google Play will not 'play' any.

This was never a problem for me. I just downloaded the uploader and let it put my iTunes to its cloud. It takes forever with my shitty Internet but it still uploads and plays. If your music is in MP3 format, it was never an issue.

Are you sure the change wasn't the bottom two things on the list and not drm-free AAC? As far as I'm aware drm-free AAC has always worked. That may be accurate. But if you're talking about the uploading itself, then yes I have all my music in the cloud but I pin an album I want to listen to in the gym or on a trip when I want to listen to it.

I'm an album-centric music lover and have phases during which I will listen continuously to a few when I'm in the mood or doing something specific. I then unpin those and pin new ones when I get tired of them or hear something new.

However, I always have every album I could possibly want in the cloud and have something I could use for a party, for reading, for exercising, etc. However, I'd be surprised if I'm still listening to any of these albums anywhere near as heavily weeks from now.
