Compare Prepaid Cell Phone Plans with No Contract 10
Regional customers are interested in faster peak speeds for a lot more than "downloading a HD movie in 12 seconds", as well as seeing enough bandwidth to cater for times of heavier usage. I'm hoping to get in a store on Saturday morning if I can. Im in san diego and there is band 12 here.

The first step would be to add vodafone to every Optus tower where Vodafone doesn't have a signal yet Or Telstra towers on which Optus leases cell space. Its a good thing when people complain about service.
About T-Mobile
Their next move will probably be to refarm some MHz over to 4G to increase bandwidth. Not bad at all considering I have the North American version of the Pixel XL which doesn't give me any CA in Australia so it's running just the single band setup like the 'old days'. Here, it is not much better.
Background on the behind-the-scenes deal
Just tested in North Sydney: Knox City Shopping Centre: One thing I am enjoying about Vodafone is the quality of the IP network which is always something I liked about voda. Anyone having trouble with Vodafone data today?

02.02.2018 - During the 5 MHz band 1 phase, I did not discover any of these on my Ballarat trip. Recent switcher to Voda from Telstra. This is the best I've had. Thanks for pointing that out. I kept a decent signal the rest of the way home, once I got in PA, but dropped signal quite a few times the little I was in Ohio.

29.01.2018 - Thanks forgot to be more specific — I wanted a result on 5Mhz only forgot it was 10Mhz in some areas. Gee I wonder if that's what I was getting at when I posted: My route goes from DC near Pittsburgh through columbus, dayton, indianapolis back up towards gary. Yes, I'm paying a bit more, but as I said, "you get what you pay for". The best download speed today was in Coburg at 2:

Vodafone 3G at the hotel: Vodafone 4G at the hotel: Cannot share bug probably due to slow upload speed results. It slowed to an absolute crawl both times: I guess the upload speed still beats Aldi at this location.
Aldi 3G at the hotel: Both providers have lattice towers on Mount Warrenheip right behind, so excellent reception. Vodafone 4G band 5 only: Aldi 3G the site only has band 28 for 4G, which my phone doesn't support: Vodafone is terrible all the time in Ballarat in my experience — for data at least.
It's well overdue for that 10 MHz of band 3 they just got access to. Have you seen band 1 while you've been in the area? Not at all surprised by those results in Ballarat, It's the same situation here in Townsville, running off only 5Mhz of Band 5, the maximum would be 20mbps but 4G is getting so congested here it's frequently only mbps and 3G runs much faster most of the time at mbps.
They have the same amount live in Shepparton now and it has worked wonders for the network there, both speed-wise where band 1 is but it has made band 5 usable again where previously it was quite congested.
Vodafone really needs to roll out band 1 to all of its regional towers, and if it's now got band 3 spectrum which I believe it obtained a few months ago, that too. I must say that I was very impressed with Vodafone's coverage between Melbourne and Ballarat.
It was as good as Telstra's. Nice to see them building new sites to improve highway coverage, rather than just adding antennas to wherever Telstra has a tower.
That's correct, they only have 5 MHz out there. Their metro 10 MHz licensed area extends most of the way to Ballarat but does not include any of it. I think it goes as far as Ballan or so.
They have band 1 on the majority of sites in Ballarat and have band 3 on some of them, but not all. How much band 1 and 3 spectrum do they have in Ballarat? If they had 10MHz of each, they should be alright.
Ah, that's good to know it's getting rolled out now. They do have 10 MHz on band 3 and 5 MHz on band 1 as spectrum licences, but recently they have been getting licenses for individual sites to run 10 MHz band 1.
So some sites may be 5 and some may be 10 for band 1. Did they acquire more band 1 spectrum, or are they simply stealing more of it from 3G? I wonder if they could get by with just 5MHz for 3G, along with Maybe that's all they have on some sites.
In regional areas, 3G was not commonly used but they've held a 5 MHz license since The extra 10 MHz licenses I've seen have been wholly outside their existing license range. I can't say with certainty that they have moved the limited amount of 3G sites over to 4G.
Here are three sites in Ballarat with both 3G and 4G, and there are plenty more. The 3G is listed as being active since at least They couldn't be using on both 3G and 4G with only 5MHz.
For 3G they are using their 5 MHz spectrum license, for 4G they are using separate apparatus licenses — and so far from what I have seen these are all 10 MHz. So 15 MHz in total. This way they can still run both technologies on the sites that were already utilising their spectrum license for that band.
For 3G they are using their 5 MHz spectrum license, for 4G they are using separate apparatus licenses. Vodafone has plenty of sites in Ballarat; it just needs to ensure that bands 1 and 3 are added to all sites which isn't currently the case.
I would call that suffering rather than getting by though. During the 5 MHz band 1 phase, I did not discover any of these on my Ballarat trip. Then now, only for about two months has Vodafone been able to use their new regional MHz allocations.
Oztowers shows this has band 1, 3 and 5: They could be placeholders for a rollout that hasn't occurred yet. There is some uncertainty still over MHz in regional areas.
The carriers are using apparatus licenses at present and it's unknown when the ACMA will auction the band. Voda can utilise it's MHz spectrum anytime though. Band 3 is not active still as far as I know.
They've had those listed as "active" which really just means the equipment is installed with no regard to licensing or if it's live or not since, when they didn't even have that spectrum available and no specific licenses granted.
In the case of Shepparton, they still don't have any band 3 — which I think sparked the rollout of 10 MHz band 1 there, as it occurred soon after the auction results were made available.
I thought all the carriers had a minimum of 5MHz in regional areas. The 10MHz voda picked up at auction covered all of regional victoria. And I've not seen one example of its use.
Even when 2G was on the band it was never available regionally. For instance if you check South Australia, it's not segmented into multiple rural areas but the license are just does not extend anywhere further north of Port Augusta.
I didn't even know that kind of speed was possible with vodafone and their spectrum. It must be using bands 1, 3 and 5 together. I doubt that kind of speed would be possible with combining only two bands.
Connected to Band 3 normally, and additionally connected to Bands 1 and 5 during aggregation. Last one I did was at Greensborough Plaza on the 22nd of April. I live in Geelong which has the same spectrum as Melbourne, mostly if not completely fibre backhaul etc.
Anyone got speed tests for suburban areas in Melbourne What areas are you looking for? After repeating the tests, the highest I got was http: I can never get these speeds after leaving, so when I get home, I usually see Mbps.
Before Vodafone did upgrades at my place. After Vodafone did upgrades at my place. Hmm, I have just checked the coverage map again and I am no longer in the blackspot I have mention previously.
Yet there is absolutely no real world change: Knox City Shopping Centre: Knox City not sure what's with the weird upload speeds lately: Brunswick vodaphone 4g 1. Not bad at all considering I have the North American version of the Pixel XL which doesn't give me any CA in Australia so it's running just the single band setup like the 'old days'.
This was in bumper to bumper traffic on Wellington Road in Rowville. I happened to stop directly opposite the antenna on the corner of Corporate Avenue and had a signal strength of dBm.
Rfnsa doesnt suggest this. Figtree grove now also has a DAS which went live not long ago This one was after work a bit ago, in Eastland: I'll do another one in Eastland when I get to work today, since it's one of the busiest Xmas shopping times: I decided to run a number of tests on joint Vodafone and Optus sites around my area.
All tests used the Internode mirror in Melbourne and were run on each phone one after the other not simultaneously. One carrier won all but one test. Corner of Scoresby and Ferntree Gully Roads: New Optus site on Henderson Road, Rowville: Site on Karoo Road, Rowville: Stud Park shopping centre: Perhaps it is needed because there is a footy stadium across the road.
Lol it's hardly what I'd call bringing the network to a halt level when there's a game on. Grandstand sits about no more than people. One annoying thing is though when youre at the rsl next door your phone connects to the das and not the tower which are both line of sight, experience ain't the best.
I am amazed how many people reporting speeds over mbps, I live in Sydney, have done speed testing at 20 different locations in Sydney Metro, Use Samsung S7edge phone. Can someone please shed some light how others are reporting speeds even mbps.
Time of day and proximity to the tower might be things you could manipulate. Try outside of business hours in close proximity to a Vodafone tower and go from there. I noticed the same trend at lunchtime in Cann River yesterday, where download speeds showed clear signs of congestion, but upload was reaching fairly regular speeds.
Coleman Road, Wantirna South earlier today: Dandenong North at 8pm: Both were working fine yesterday and Vodafone says there are no outages in my area although the independent outage websites show complaints this morning.
I can't get my iPhone 7 on 4G nor my iPad on 3G to connect to the internet. However, when I do a speed test from the Speedtest phone app it shows the following: Speedtest is using the internet though Like loading websites with a browser?
I can't access certain websites on my Vodafone connection. Not having any problems here, Sydney Richmond Same issue here in Newtown, VIC. No throughput to most of the sites I tried — for me not even the speed test app will work.
No whirlpool either, shock horror! I'm having issues in Perth metro this morning as well. I can load sites within the Vodafone network such as My Vodafone, but as soon as I try to access anything else it doesn't load.
A traceroute from my phone to whirlpool. Uploaded this via WiFi: Same here, Melboune, Richmond, https: Still won't load certain websites such as whirlpool but will load the eBay app.
Still can't get emails. Whirlpool has just started to load and my emails have come through. Seems like the problem has been fixed. I concur here, all working again.
Looking at the IX metrics peering in Melbourne has ground to a halt but now the slack has been picked up by Sydney. Best result I've ever seen — so much bandwidth! It's amazing, as Optus has two sites in Terang — both with 4G one with band 28 and one with 28 and 7.
Vodafone is great in Warrnambool? There's only one site in Warrnambool and Telstra and Optus have half a dozen each. Well I finally got my Kogan sim in the mail, and the speedtests have begun!
For a bit of background info, I'm on the Sunshine Coast, and Vodafone doesn't have the best reputation here due to lack of spectrum, they have 5mhz of, 5mhz of and 10mhz of, so 20mhz total across those three bands.
For comparison, optus has about 60mhz of spectrum, and Telstra has even more around 90 I think, although they only have 75mhz active on the majority of towers.
That ended up being the fastest test I got, and I have to say, 75mbps actually greatly exceeded my expectations, I was expecting maybe max. Generally I'm actually pleasantly surprised at how Vodafone's network is.
Despite having much less spectrum, their speeds aren't too bad, it's worth noting too that these tests were all at lunchtime in high traffic areas so results could end up being even better at night.
I think a big part of it is that the majority of people use Optus and Telstra. Speeds on mhz were quite shoddy mbps which could present issues if you're deep inside buildings, but aside from that, Vodafone seems to have put some effort into rolling out all 3 bands to quite a few towers, which can't always be said for Telstra and Optus.
Probably not as consistent as I'd like and I don't think it's enough to make me switch to Vodafone, but it's good to know that that vodafone's network isn't as bad as everyone thinks it is.
Vodafone seems to have put some effort into rolling out all 3 bands to quite a few towers, which can't always be said for Telstra and Optus. You seem to forget its nearly been a year since voda bought some Mhz spectrum which it hasnt rolled out anywhere yet.
Not where you are. Voda only bought 5MHz of MHz, so unless it's possible to have CA wth four bands with those frequencies it's very unlikely most phones would do this anyway, it won't make any difference.
They need more spectrum in bands 3 and 5 there. The point i was making is voda is no different to T or O in that it has more capacity it could roll out. Rolling out capacity has a cost in labour, energy consumption and purcase of hardware.
Rolling it all out and if not needed IMO is akin to throwing perfically good food in the rubbish. That said, there are still many areas where Vodafone have access to their regional MHz license that goes unused, even where it is genuinely needed.
They've been able to use those holdings now for almost a year. Nope, haven't forgotten at all, but at the moment there aren't any proposals for mhz outside of Tasmania, so I think it's safe to assume that it won't be rolled out for a while.
I would have made some mention about them potentially rolling out mhz but didn't think it was necessary, and to be honest, I'm not sure whether it will make a noticeable difference apart from perhaps taking some strain off the 3 current bands and improving in-building coverage.
I haven't really been following the spectrum auctions recently, but Vodafone would benefit much more from increased capacity in and mhz, not sure if there's any of that spectrum available though.
So it will make a noticeable difference then Companies don't spend this money for "no noticeable difference". It will make a difference in some places like Tasmania where Voda only has 5mhz in, and and they have less towers, but in built up areas with a much higher density of towers I doubt the difference will be noticable, especially because they only have 5mhz of that they can actually roll out.
In my area Optus added 4Gmhz to a tower that only had 4Gmhz and speeds maybe improved by mbps from 5mbps during the day to 10mbps during the day. Yes, adding will make a difference, but that difference will vary depending on where it's installed.
Optus Xiaomi RN3P with band It will make a difference in some places like Tasmania where Voda only has 5mhz in, and and they have less towers. I was in Tasmania about this time last year and and were almost always rolled out together with CA between the two.
Just an update to this. Looks like it's all working again in Melbourne as of Feels good to share some first world looking speedtest results: I did this speedtest at the gym a couple of weeks ago, it's in outer north-west melbourne but it shows a burwood east server.
Here's band 28 from inside the plane, dbm signal, 15MHz http: Band 3, 20 MHz, no CA as my phone doesn't support it with Australian bands — although there are also bands 1 and 5 present as well.
This is my first month with Voda after being on Aldi mobile and Telstra prepaid for so long. I have been pleasantly surprised with the reception and quality of network.
Also used it over in New Zealand for free for the past three weeks and it was fantastic. Hopefully the honeymoon lasts the entire 12 month contract. The site at Cadbury's on Caterbury Road, Ringwood at 1pm: Just got this, impressed.
Yep that'll be roaming onto the Optus network. It depends where you are — increasingly I'm finding that these towers are getting their data speeds restricted for Vodafone customers, or blocked entirely.
Very good speeds in Bright this morning considering the limited spectrum available. Youi Rooftop Site Wurtulla https: Warana Industrial Estate https: University of the Sunshine Coast https: All sites have 5mhz of, 5mhz of and 10mhz of, and the tests were done on an iPhone 7 Cat 9 , meaning that each test used CA between those three bands.
Across the board I was really impressed. As I mentioned in my last speedtests on vodafone, I was expecting vodafone speeds to be rubbish because of their low amount of spectrum but I've found as long as you use a Cat 9 phone and you're in an area with 3 bands available which is most areas of the Sunshine Coast, speeds aren't bad at all.
Wasn't expecting mbps off one of the sites, especially in a high traffic area like Warana. Got this the other day which is just insane in my opinion: I wonder whats going on as it seems to be restricting certain websites but not others.
For years we've had that problem with Voda here in Facebook could never load. No probs with either Optus or Telstra so needless to say we gave up on Voda. The weird thing is all the sites loaded on smartphones.
It was if Voda didn't want people to use a calls and data sim in a USB or wifi modem but didn't want to publicise it either. Interesting as this is the first time its switched to roaming. I think I'll try out Pennytel when my 12 month contract ends.
What I find annoying is I didn't have any issues with Vodafone whilst still under the 30 day trial but almost to the day after the trial its started to go to pieces This thread is for speed tests only though, general network issues should be here: Also what happened when you raised it with Vodafone's help team on twitter?
All tests were done once and in the same spot. Not yet, Uni classes don't start until March, I was there for a tafe course interview, so I'll see when I start what it's like busy.
Have only been there once or twice. Well Vodafone speeds for Melbourne CBD have been pretty bad recently, at sub 20M for many areas outdoors, not sure if that is caused by all the new high rise developments or even Metro Tunnel Vodafone should definitely put more signal towers or repeaters.
Meanwhile, when you go inside Melbourne Central, you almost would hit over M on Vodafone, that's fast, inside; compared to QV, no signal underground inside BigW or Woolies At Tea Tree Plaza just now got mbps download and 9.
I can't say I have experienced the same issue recently. The Bin Chicken writes Or somewhere where less high rises are, ie. University of Melbourne campus, Federation Square Seen Telstra doing less than this.
Depends on the conditions at the time. I find that with the influx of people, higher density areas, especially the CBD with new high rises being built, Vodafone, as well as other telcos have not implemented to adapt to this, i.
Melbourne Elizabeth Street, in front of the newly finished green and purple apartments Pretty impressive for peak hour. Speedtest was tried on different handset IOS models and no problems. Consistent with iPhone X based on another test device.
We're in Philip Island for the weekend. We're quite a distance from the tower in Cowes the signal was dBm, so I was quite impressed with this result. Archive View Return to standard view. Not bad, this post by vodafan is nearly a Mbps faster though ;- whrl.
So a NBN even with fibre will be slow once everyone is on it? I used to get 17Mbps-ish down and 2. I have achieved 95Mbps in the brisbane city and 45Mbps 10 minutes out of the city before.
This is the best I've had. Unless you're downloading large files That's what I was going to use it for. Did you buy that in the form of data packs or something? But the offer expired for new customers on march 3: I've not seen anyone anywhere beat this yet: Best I've gotten so far is One day it will be possible.
TBH what you just said is very true — 3G was still fast What I don't like is that they're pushing 4G onto us and making us pay for the privilege without maximizing our current technology. P But in any case, this is not what this thread is about.
Going south after Redfern, I got 21Mbps down and 16Mbps up. In the past when I went past Redfern, there is no signal. I work in Morayfield and the 4G in this place is incredable Over mb download speed!
Samsung s4 Speed test Download 2. Now i need to recharge again. How come you missed out and from Optus? They will get but when is the question that can't be answered.
I'm assuming your not talking about Hobart, Darwin or Canberra. Hi all, I've just upgraded my phone to Z2 and having issues latching onto 4G. Make sure your APN is set to live.
Try locking it to 3G to see what happens. Ok will give it a shot next week.. What's your speed http: Anyone that can help will be great! However, don't seem to get 4G at all with my phone which is an iphone 5S or my wife's note3 Any help?
Because 3G is more vulnerable to congestion and thebandwidth is limited. I must say I haven't been as impressed with vodafone's 4G since release to prepaid Previously averaging 70Mbps Now quite lacking http: Because you dont get downloads much on 4g as with Fibre.
Anyone done any speed test in Sydney using a Cat 6 phone? I know that people have got Mbps with Cat 4 phone. As Vodafone offer CA atm No they don't. I meant to write "don't offer atm", I've edited my post now.
That's a modem, which is why I said mobile. Why should a cat 6 device, without using CA, be faster? You wrote "mobile device". It's a MiFi not just a modem. Next time be more specific Gee I wonder if that's what I was getting at when I posted: Here are the speed test results from the same location.
I know the last post was some time ago, but I'd just like to say thanks Vodafone! Did a test in Ringwood North where I'm currently renting, a nice Mbps down and 26 up: Ringwood North Are you right near the tower on top of the Ringwood North shops, or up on the hill?
Hey guys, all this talk about different band and stuff. I think with Vodafone it will only be and MHz bands on 4G. You can with my LG G3. Not really, but it will give a good a laugh: The first step would be to add vodafone to every Optus tower where Vodafone doesn't have a signal yet Or Telstra towers on which Optus leases cell space.
Best i can get? Once it can't see anymore voda 3G, it will go to voda roaming on Optus. Means you are on MHz 4G Check out http: Probably because it's unlimited data weekends for pre paid customers.
Say goodbye to your data doing constant speed checks! Haha that's what unlimited weekends are for! My best recorded speed - Newcastle Uni Ourimbah campus out of semester Adelaide Oval at half time Vodafone 4G with unlimited data for prepaid users http: This is why we can't have unlimited data people!!!
The two networks look pretty similar ;. Like who even needs NBN! Cell towers on every block. And whos going to pay for that? Recent switcher to Voda from Telstra. Happy enough so far. Which samsung model are you using?
Samsung Note 4, every Samsung phone ive had that code works on. I've seen up to 19 mbit on a Vodafone 5 mhz carrier — not band 5 though, it was band 1. And spend the mb running speed tests: P Both run at home in Elizabeth, SA.
Device is LG G4. Walking home from the Womma train station: Can't wait to try this overseas in a few months: Rundle Mall Adelaide dbm band 3 and dbm band 5 CA http: It went over but dialled back a bit as I started to lose signal.
Their next move will probably be to refarm some MHz over to 4G to increase bandwidth. They'll be bringing 4G online nationwide by the end of next month. For those of us who only visit the regions once a year for a few days, it will be fine Saying "Voda only needs more spectrum in areas with a bigger population" ignores the fact that they have a higher density of towers there as well.
I guess Voda are going to spend big on MHz When is that being auctioned? When is that being auctioned? This is the fastest I've ever seen posted on whirlpool. Whoops, linked the wrong one, it was this one whrl.
Belmont, VIC yesterday evening. Another ripper, but the app refused to let me share the result. Why does it do that?! Rare result for me here in Perth. I don't often get 3 bars on 4g. Using a Galaxy S7 so I'm well within capability for 4G.
Small regional town NetskyAU writes Its probably only 5 Mhz worth of LTE It would be interesting to see some current speed test results now that Vodafone has 10MHz of active If you are in Melbourne or sydney metropolitan areas then apart from reducing traffic per cell it wont make much difference as they already had 3 channels of carrier aggregation Not many posts in here lately, so I thought I'd post some results The Internode server in Melbourne was used for all tests.
Lebara simcard Very good result. Yes I meant 5. The moral of the storey is that you get what you pay for. It was a Samsung S5 As you can see above I've got results of over megabits per second on a phone supporting all of Vodafone's bands in certain areas.
I never realised there was such a disparity between Telcos Did you see my comparison at home? Second post on this page. That's what people who've paid too much always say.
Just tested in North Sydney: Sometimes it plays up though. That would have used a decent amount of data lol yes. Just looked at the Data Usage area, speedtest.
Go easy on the speed tests ;. Go easy on the speed tests ; Afraid I'll beat your result? I've got 4GB to get through in 28 days. This is just a test sim I got Are you happy with that phone?
Are you happy with that phone? I love the phone Slight thread creep, can you give me a heads up on what the EXACT model is and where might be a good place to get it?
Getting those kind of figures interests me. Some regional tests coming this weekend. Much as I love Voda, some of the regional stuff is a bit hit and miss. Vodafone 4G Vodafone is terrible all the time in Ballarat in my experience — for data at least.
Things improved once I returned to Melbourne, of course. For 3G they are using their 5 MHz spectrum license, for 4G they are using separate apparatus licenses So they were getting by with 5MHz of band 5 and 10MHz of band 1, and the sites that have had band 3 had 10MHz added?
As for already having 5 MHz of, I'm not aware of that. It's possible with only a single 20 meg band if using a cat16 device samsung s8 and a network with QAM with 4x4 MIMO enabled With no other users on the network?
It must be using bands 1, 3 and 5 together Yes. I did not repeat the speedtest, so it might be a fluke. Anyone got speed tests for suburban areas in Melbourne? Pumpino has a few on here. I also did my test repeatedly in Kew, VIC.
Was getting pretty darn good speeds. Crikey, I would be happy with the before figures at my place. Utterly trash compared to my flawless jeenee mobile Optus 4g What phone are you using?
What phone are you using? Yep, the capability of the phone plays a signifcant part in gauging network performance. Was surprised by the speed of some Apple app updates, so ran a quick speedtest http: A pretty limp score for Robina, Gold Coast.
Hello All, I am amazed how many people reporting speeds over mbps, I live in Sydney, have done speed testing at 20 different locations in Sydney Metro, Use Samsung S7edge phone Maximum speed I have ever seen is 70mbps up, 15mbps down Can someone please shed some light how others are reporting speeds even mbps.
Can someone please shed some light how others are reporting speeds even mbps Time of day and proximity to the tower might be things you could manipulate. Anyone having trouble with Vodafone data today?
Im getting the same this morning. Lots of webpages won't load. Same here, can't open reddit — Melbourne CBD. I'm 45km NE of Warrnambool Vic. I'm surprised Vodafone has coverage out that far. That area has coverage because of the Princes Highway.
Yes but it does vary. Terang is virtually nonexistent but Warrnambool is great. Terang is virtually nonexistent It's amazing, as Optus has two sites in Terang — both with 4G one with band 28 and one with 28 and 7.
Bought a cheap prepaid SIM from Woolies out of curiosity. Be interesting to see how I go on the mainland in a couple of weeks time. So should be even better when they do roll it out?
Nor can they turn it on until April 1 this year. Nor can they turn it on until April 1 this year And i doubt the will as they havent got anyting planned. We're down at Safety Beach. Here are the results from the place we're staying at: I did this speedtest at the gym a couple of weeks ago, it's in outer north-west melbourne but it shows a burwood east server https: If I do, I am very lucky..
I am lucky to get something outside, and inside.. If there is no solid set of boxes in a line, and around the area, then figure spotty service.. Looks like St Louis is the only top market without mhz still.
US Cellular still sitting on that? Network info is great tho. At least USCC is doing something good with their spectrum. Also looks like TMO is expecting a slowdown in customer ads, with branded postpaids expected around 3mil for the full year.
It would be a lot easier to move to another carrier and stay off this sight. Your problem and our problem would be solved. They have much lower prices now. You know how dumb that sounds..
Start a class action against TMobile?? Realistically some rural areas will get light LTE signal to start with while suburbs get full bar. This will improve when T-Mobile grabs the mhz spectrum from the auction and fleshes out Band Nice coverage all the way.
Same in NE Colorado: There have been improvements in Colorado, say in Durango, but the coverage is still spotty. Seems like the coverage map is painted with a very wide brush: Can we zoom in and look at this at a local level?
Best way to do that is https: That allows you to zoom in on current coverage. Is there any way to zoom in on that projected coverage map? I think he was referring to the Projected Coverage Map, not the map from last December.
How come there is no way to zoom in on projected coverage? Just look at how much they are adding this year.. T-Mobile has already started expanding their network in Southeastern West Virginia along I in both Dawson, and Clintonville which is now 7 miles east from where i am currently living.
What would give you that impression? Their track record is to under-promise and over-deliver, so if anything their expansion will beat the estimate. My personal experience in western Illinois.
Fair, to them is, well… its coverage.. It is the lowest rating outside of no coverage.. I was up in north chicago a few months back, and had the same problem with data as you.
I had full bars, or just one bar from full, but could not get any data to stream. I even made sure I was on a Tmobile tower.. I could call and talk with no problem, just could not get any data.
All I was trying to do was load up gas buddy, which uses almost no data too. I even tried rebooting my phone.. I went a few miles down the street, connected to a different tower, and got data no problem..
Ironically, I think that was the only time I ever ran into that. I could understand this near Pontiac, but not in a major city. It does not surprise me. With the exception of in the city, out in the country, it is usually, one tower, and everyone leases space off of it, so I doubt that the service is much better going to other companies.
Here, it is not much better. In Erie, PA the service is pretty good.. But, once you go south of interstate It depends on the road. Like I said in another comment.. But, hey, you never know..
Maybe the the cows want to keep in touch.. Towers are working just outside of Bozeman on a now-and-again basis — someplace near Four Corners. And yet, T-Mobile still outgrows Verizon each quarter..
Seems people are growing tired of the dinosaur network and want something newer. I do not think it is just because of a dinosaur network.. I think it comes down more to price. Just look at them.
I just looked them up. Verizon, 1 line, unlimited plan.. Thats what, something like — dollars less per year with Tmobile for 2 lines.. Guess what happens, the handoffs sucks, and the calls always drop, Ohio have the most dropped calls driving through that state police ticketing state, coverage drops out of LTE and when it is searching for another tmobile tower, the calls drop again, cannot get consistent drop call free handoffs, miss 2G for voice calls because at least that was stable.
I65 through indiana sucks, especially by the windmills north of lafayette and the cow dung farms further up north. How do I know that you are a troll and full of shizz, I live in Ohio and am on the road all over the state and have no problems.
Outside of Columbus where I live I get down in the sticks. What point what I have in trolling on this article? You are just bored and have nothing else to do. I kind of agree. I was driving through a bit of Ohio today..
State routes, but not main highways, and I found that I dropped service quite a few times on my way home. I went from right around Niles or warren ohio, and went straight down the routes to Greenville PA..
I kept a decent signal the rest of the way home, once I got in PA, but dropped signal quite a few times the little I was in Ohio.. If you go through the allegheny national forest, on route 6 in PA, for about 10 or 15 miles, just west of Kane PA, there is NO service for that span of road either..
Ironically, Tmobile has that there is coverage for the whole thing though.. Service is spotty across 68 right there too. I do have to give Tmobile some credit though. Compared to a few years ago, their service coverage has greatly improved.
Glad my comment from 2 months ago was remembered. I listen to Sirius talk radio to kill those 13 hours, and right when I am about to get my turn to join the conversation the call drops.
I am on hold for like 30 minutes and then boom the handoff fails. I was considering looking into a verizon hotspot for when i drive and use my wifi calling to connect to that, i just dont know if they have such limited use hotspot though not worth it to get a monthly one.
Those mountains do you in I one percent agree.

It's perfectly fine as it is right? Doesn't Cat 6 require carrier aggregation? As Vodafone don't offer CA atm, would there even be any discernible difference using a Cat 6 phone over a Cat 4 phone?
Hopefully someone with a Note 4 only Cat 6 mobile device available in Australia atm? There's another cat 6 device around. I meant on Vodafone Here are the results upload and download speeds in chart form.

Mate, it is interesting you say that. I was down Portarlington VIC for over 3 weeks and found Vodafone's 4G to be very average, I could not achieve higher then mbps, with a bars.
I wonder if it is it's back haul in such locations. I don't think it is congestion either, I am down the Bellarine allot so I see how busy the places are. Bought a 2GB data addon and did the most speedtests I could using it around Melbourne's northern suburbs.
The best download speed today was in Coburg at 2: The best upload speed today was in Fawkner at 1: The worst download speed today was in Brunswick at 2: The worst upload speed today was in Parkville at 2: Latency is so crap I find it difficult to use remote desktops.
Telstra 4G coverage here is almost non existent and Optus is at least half the speed of Voda. I have my router set to switch my default gateway to the Dovado in the evenings and will probably end up moving to the 50GB plan.
Vodafone seems to be improving its 4G in major metro areas, however a lot of regional Australia has poor reception. When are they going to improve service is my next question?
Other then this, there metro service and outer suburban service is impressive. I get 4G from Melb to Geelong with no issue. The have very little spectrum in county areas, I don't think you will see a wide spread 4G roll out any time soon.
The first step would be to add vodafone to every Optus tower where Vodafone doesn't have a signal yet, for example most of the eyre peninsula in South Australia. The second step, if vodafone chose to go that far, would be to look at all the Telstra towers outsourced to Crown Castle and others in towns where neither vodafone or optus have a presence, and add to those.
If vodafone did it first Optus would follow, but I find that unlikely. The next question is when I guess? I am aware that they have recently been advertising in regional Victorian cities, with special plans for Geelong and Ballarat customers for example.
I was finishing up downloading a 26gb torrent on the way to the football this morning, and this speed test is consistent with what I have been seeing all through Adelaide's northern suburbs.
Adelaide Oval, dbm LTE band 3 http: Torrens Park SA, — dbm on band 3 http: I'm getting over Mbits at home. Sustained 8Mb a second. Data Workout will be dangerous! Are you right near the tower on top of the Ringwood North shops, or up on the hill?
You'd have to be close to get speeds like that. I have the Galaxy S6 unbranded Australian model and with Vodafone. The phone saying 4g signal atm, but what i want to know is am i connected to the fastest band?
Generally you can't lock a phone to a band. If your phone is capable of multiple bands with that carrier then they can prioritise what band your phone uses as 1st preference.
This is particularly true with Optus which often runs multiple 4G bands from each tower. Why does the title of this thread have two "!! Do I have to yell the title in my head when reading it?
The first step would be to add vodafone to every Optus tower where Vodafone doesn't have a signal yet. The Voda-R arrangement in our district seems to have all but disintegrated.
Once was the time when my u would auto link up to Optus cells and give me speedy DC. With a Huawei Y android phone, which I've also used as a modem for 'no' data weekends, I can manually select Voda-R from the network providers list - but the data crawls.
This more distant tower only has three cells and both Telstra and Optus transmit from the location - presumably they have one cell each and Voda can broadcast two frequencies via their one unit?
Vodafone 4g sitting in my lounge room. Have you done a speedtest. Use the speedtest app. Beware it can chew through quite a bit of data. Search what towers are near you and what bands they currently allow.
Then relax, your phone is on 4G. You can't choose bands on an S6. If the speedtest isn't giving you the speed you think is good enough, then you'll have to change to a different carrier.
I did speed tests for the last few days and I have been consistently getting faster upload speeds than downloads. Today I got 12mbps down and 40mbps up. What's the deal with this? A sign of congestion?
Vodafone 4G in Canberra. Pretty much all areas I go the 4G isn't useable in Canberra: Top that off with certain prepaid cap users getting unlimited data on the weekends and there isn't much room for high speeds in Canberra sadly.
Vodafone 4G with unlimited data for prepaid users http: How do you tell how much bandwidth a carrier has at a given location? The info is available to the public, but certain handsets can tell you.
For example, my LG G3's engineering menu reports which band I'm connected to and how much bandwidth is available. I believe some Samsung models do it also. Sadly data is expensive on mobile carriers.
I don't expect to use 4g network to download a lot of things. If everyone used mobile data as their only internet connection, you would be constantly complaining about slow speeds and nobody would receive the speeds shown.
Mobile networks cannot handle thousands of people transferring hundreds of gigabytes of data a month. Where you see in the above screenshot it shows "CA add" that means carrier aggregation added.
What they offer will vary from area to area and this particular site i was near while out on a walk was in Fairy Meadow NSW, Thomas Dalton park. Even my 70 YO mum uses more data per month than any mobile network offers or could handle for that matter.
You could build mobile networks to handle loads of traffic but it wouldn't be cost effective. Would it simply be a case of the Government wanting carriers to co-contribute to the roll out cost to be allowed to do that, and them not wanting to?
Or other major factors? I'm having some trouble working out how many tens of thousands of towers "every block" might involve. Plus the "planning" of such a network would cost a few hundred million or more just on it's own.
It would cost at least double what the NBN build is costing now. If the NBN could get away with having fixed wireless in the cities, don't you think they would be doing that?
There is a reason why most mobile phone towers are built in industrial parks, near train lines, in council depots or on top of existing telephone exchange buildings. Once the app is open, select Serving Cell Info to get the information on connected frequency band and bandwidth.
Sadly there's no information here on carrier aggregation yet if there ever will be. My post about Canberra was described in more detail in this thread: I've barely hit 40Mbps around where I am What are the highest speeds people have been getting on LTE?
Anyone get between Mbps download? Or only in the teens? Thanks forgot to be more specific — I wanted a result on 5Mhz only forgot it was 10Mhz in some areas.
I wanted a result on 5Mhz only forgot it was 10Mhz in some areas. The highest I've ever personally seen on 5Mhz of LTE was about 17Mbps, even if it's theoretically possible to get higher then 20, in real world conditions I'm not sure it's likely.
It theoretically can get up to If there was no congestion at all and you were a reasonable distance from the tower, say m-1km away, Mbps is probably quite possible. However before L moved to 10 MHz in Sydney, speed tests would usually turn up results around Mbps for me.
After the move, I've turned up results in the twenties: Ah Ok — I'm a good 20km from the tower regional so will be interesting to see what I get when I try after my R hotspot arrives.
How much does your 4g offer in the way of downloads. I bet you cant watch streaming tv much. Thanks for pointing that out. It's likely I will sign up to this now to supplement my main telstra sim.
I'm hoping to get in a store on Saturday morning if I can. Also a 2 month data workout is included i. I'm currentley using it as my main modem as my ADSL is crap. Band 3 dbm 20MHz carrier Band 5 dbm 5MHz carrier, tower with band 5 is further away Telstra for comparison, 20MHz band 3 at — dbm I'm seeing something weird, when I go to do a speed test sometimes my phone gets stuck on finding on the fastest server, and literally the only thing that fixes it is a reboot of my LG G4.
On the train on 3G: Then turned off mobile data and got an LTE signal, so I tested again at I can't be bothered going to all the effort of posting the speedtest. Those speeds are all pretty consistent and in line with what I expected, except at home where I used to see 70 or even 90mbps no worries on vodafone about a year ago, but I guess they have picked up a lot of customers since then and have higher inclusions in general now.
One thing I am enjoying about Vodafone is the quality of the IP network which is always something I liked about voda. I haven't seen dropouts in streaming media so far and I do a lot of that.
Pirate radio from the UK is playing flawlessly used to buffer quite a bit on Optus and Telstra was a bit better but not much. I like how the pings are always low and the DNS lookups are really fast making webpages load much faster.
That's something I didn't have on Telstra or Optus most of the time. If you want the fastest transfer speeds possible go to Telstra, if you want the most LTE reception in regional areas go to Optus, but the quality of consistent internet flow seems to be at Vodafone today.
I ran another 3 tests trying to crack the tonne but couldn't get there on this occasion: Waiting for a train at womma station in Adelaide. Optus gets no signal more often than not, and Telstra has 3G with occasional forays into LTE Unlike with both telstra and Optus My streaming radio isn't rudely interrupted whenever I enter and exit the train station anymore.
I've definitely made the right choice for this use case. As I was waiting for the train to depart there was no interruption to my video stream either watching the news, and since the news is live it's so annoying when it's interrupted.
But the question you're looking for maybe is do Vodafone do Carrier Aggregation, and the answer is yes. They are expanding 4G, and are aggregating it with 4G So that's Vodafone's answer to what Optus and Telstra are doing with their "More places" and "X" marketing.
How do we know what areas have this done? What are tge max speeds Voda can achieve then? Also, what's Vodafone's plan to expand 4G and increase coverage in regional areas? It's just a marketing term to describe their multi-band 4G networks.
And Voda uses 2 bands for their 4G. In the big 5 cities, Vodafone has approximately the same amount of spectrum as Telstra or Optus when you compare the amount of subscribers each has.
Outside of those cities.. Does Voda have 10MHz of in regional areas? If it doesn't own MHz spectrum in the same areas, one would hope its not relying on just 5MHz of for 4G.
Look at what Optus have been relying on all these years, only 5 mhz or 3G havent they? But it's likely they'll be using 10 MHz of to supplement in places without spectrum. That is until, what May? When their new licenses take effect in some areas.
It won't break any speed records but it will get the job done an increase in speed, lower latency. If you want to download HD movies in 12 seconds on that 1 weekend you go away each year, go sign up with Optus or Telstra.
For those of us who only visit the regions once a year for a few days, it will be fine. As a Vodafone customer, you also come to expect there maybe one or two times you might need to pick up prepaid with another provider anyway.
Those licenses will add to the existing 5MHz that vodafone already had. Voda bought licenses in only 5 of the 12 regional areas offered. In 1 of those 5 areas, they only bought 5MHz despite a 5MHz block going unsold.
In 3 of the 7 areas they didn't buy, some spectrum went unsold. Which is kinda sad when you consider that Optus have about twice as many customers as Voda. Saying "Voda only needs more spectrum in areas with a bigger population" ignores the fact that they have a higher density of towers there as well.
Regional customers are interested in faster peak speeds for a lot more than "downloading a HD movie in 12 seconds", as well as seeing enough bandwidth to cater for times of heavier usage.
You're talking about millions of people who live in these regions, most of them in cities of tens of thousands of people — big enough to be serviced by multiple towers. I guess Voda are going to spend big on MHz, or just let it be known that outside the big 5 cities subscribers can expect poor service.
There is no date set, I'm just guessing within the next few years — based on ACMA's intent to "reform" the band, and them only having to worry about the 3 telcos when it comes to the MHz GSM band — so should be able to make it happen fairly quickly.
Has to be close to a record for Voda! I've seen a couple from Telstra users which are faster but that's right up there! The last before this one I posted just above is my personal record for Vodafone and all networks bus I use Vodafone most so it's biased — and the best I've seen on Vodafone from anyone is about mbps download: Don't think Voda can compete with that without increased spectrum holdings, what speeds would even be possible with CA of Mhz of Band 3 and 10Mhz of Band 5?
Another personal best speedtest this morning, in Highton VIC. This was an R next to the council tower in Katoomba. I couldn't believe how fast it was. Geelong VIC just now — a new personal best of Band 5 10MHz at Knox City shopping centre: Coleman Road, Wantirna South my personal best with Vodafone so far: Ringwood check out the bizarre upload speed: Maroondah Hospital, Ringwood East the high upload speeds are impressive: It's been a little buggy for me too lately.
In my situation at least it was to do with the test not getting a proper ID and therefore a URL from their server. Someone may know the answer to my issue, as I cannot find anything.
I get 2 bars of 4G right now but only get around 10mbps down basically all the time. The main improvements are in performance rather than speed in regional areas.
I find using the internet there now "feels" a lot faster, page load times are lower and I get much less buffering especially when on the edge of cell range. Band 5 4G isn't too good in my area unfortunately, and it's not preferring band 3 for whatever reason so I'm stuck with this.
It would be interesting to see some current speed test results now that Vodafone has 10MHz of active. Can they do, and carrier aggregation? Even if they can't, taking the load off of might boost speeds.
If you are in Melbourne or sydney metropolitan areas then apart from reducing traffic per cell it wont make much difference as they already had 3 channels of carrier aggregation Stud Park Shopping Centre: Don't feel bad, it varies for all the telcos.
I have access to all the carriers up to Telstra's Nighthawk 'gigabit' device. They all embarrass themselves. There is no one winner. Just depends on where you spend most of your time and what you want to do.
Is that actually possible with Vodafone's spectrum? I've never seen above Mbps with two bands of CA. It was 20 Mhz Band 3, 10 MHz band 5. I have no idea whether the service screen shows a third carrier, or whether the S7e even supports 3 band CA It must be possible, because I didn't make it up: I did 3 tests in a row.
Looks like the phone does support 3 CA. Dunno if the service screen ever shows the third band, if it's ever using it. Do you mean band 5? As far as I know Voda have only used band 8 on a couple of test sites in Victoria, and they don't have that much bandwidth available.
I can't post any speed tests of my Vodafone service, didn't save them, but they were damn slow. On the weekend just gone, I ditched Vodafone, switched to Telstra and so far I can't complain.
I now get better upload speeds than I can get with my Optus Cable Internet. Isn't that 2 mbps? Vodafone must be quite poor indeed in your area if you couldn't even reach that.
I think the Vodafone upload speed was greater than 2 Mbps if memory serves me right, it was 5 — 8 figure, both at home and in Melb CBD, but far lower than the Telstra service. I never realised there was such a disparity between Telcos; I always thought it was more whose coverage was greater.
Optus Cable, yep, it's limited to 2 Mbps upload, but in reality, I'm getting 1. Can't wait for the NBN. I switched over purely for the speed, and with the deal, I've got 25GB p. Yes, I'm paying a bit more, but as I said, "you get what you pay for".
As you can see above I've got results of over megabits per second on a phone supporting all of Vodafone's bands in certain areas. I only saw your last screenshot where it indicated 37 or 39 up, but all the same very impressive.
Also, if you visit the Telstra speed test thread, you'll see some poor results. Also depends on what your hardware is capable of and local conditions. Have see woeful results with all three telcos.
I tried but couldn't post my results directly from the Android app. Have they removed that function? I'm still able to in the Android O beta however the sharing function has been buggy for a while now in the Speedtest app.
It lists the carrier as Telstra because it's a dual sim phone and I didn't disable my Aldi sim prior to running the test. Corner of Boronia and Wantirna Roads, Wantirna: I love the phone.
It's got a massive battery that gives me hours of SOT. It's also my first 5. I can't seem to get under Mbps today. Vodafone is really kicking goals in Melbourne. Slight thread creep, can you give me a heads up on what the EXACT model is and where might be a good place to get it?
New base station recently activated in Thornleigh NSW — http: Knox City shopping Centre: I'm in Ballarat for the weekend. At the hotel, I have no 4G with Aldi, possibly due to the lack of band 28 on my phone, but have a strong 4G with Vodafone.
I thought this was a sign of good things to come, but not so. Sovereign Hill a strong 4G signal with both carriers: What is vodafone 3G like?
My route goes from DC near Pittsburgh through columbus, dayton, indianapolis back up towards gary. I can not say it is much better with verizon..
I know people who have verizon. But, there has been so many times that we have talked to her, and suddenly the line will disconnect. We are on a landline, and her, cell.. So I know it is her end.
What will make it even better is if they get service like they say.. If so, Tmobile will actually be better then Verizon in that area. Here is to hoping.. I would half agree.
If you go by their full coverage map, and have a contract type of plan, and you go by full coverage, then you would be right.. T-Mobile is king for speed, second only to Verizon because Verizon puts towers in areas where nobody is.
Why does T-Mobile hate the Oregon coast? Maybe because of the Twilight series. Somehow I doubt this will silence the whiners. Come on Alabama Gulf Coast!! This is excellent news!
I love the sarcasm. My service usually sucks. What happened to LTE in Albuquerque?
