That isn't what the Moto Z is about. In all of these settings, the standard Moto Z holds its own and only trails slightly — if at all. Perhaps the biggest issue with the feature is that it can be too easy to activate accidentally, which probably explains why it's not on by default: One plus one mobile price in india and features And again, we can't stress enough how useful the battery pack is: Qualcomm added the Adreno GPU to the processor for superior graphics. It works effectively to open apps, show you the weather or your schedule, and the like.

You wouldn't know just by looking at it, but the Moto Z Play sits lower on the performance totem pole than either of the Moto Z's that came before it. Using specially developed Motorola technology, the phone has been designed so that its screen is reinforced to protect from damage during drops. The use of an RGB plus monochrome setup also assists in low-light photography, as the monochrome sensor enables capture of more light information, with the RGB concentrating on getting color information. Both are running Android 7. That's handy for watching videos, but less ideal if you're pumping out tunes, since it angles the speakers downward, so the vibrations will bounce off of whatever surface the phone is sitting on top of. You may read other reviews that mock Lenovo for launching wacky Moto Mods like a projector and a huge, back-facing speaker for your phone, but we're applauding the company instead: The Moto Z2 Force sits smack in the middle of these segments.

Users own data in Office as our AI empowers them: These kinds of missteps are offset by a general feeling of sturdiness, thanks in large part to the phone's solid metal rim. Pictures taken have a strong character, and objects or people in the foreground tend to pop out, as is expected from a good portrait shot.

14.03.2018 - The phones themselves are premium, metallic beauties, not unlike what you'd expect from any other high-end flagship. If slightly oversaturated colors aren't your thing, though, you can change things with a trip to the settings the phone's display mode is set to "vivid" by default. A projector is an option — albeit a wacky, out-of-left-field one — that no other phone gives you. The device also comes with a mAh battery, which might sound a bit small and inadequate at first. More on that later though. One of the noteworthy Motorola additions is of course the Moto app, which controls the specialized Moto experiences that the company has developed and pushed on its devices.

Some of these may feel gimmicky, but others are genuinely useful, and I truly found myself depending on these as I got used to the Moto Z2 Force. Of these, the Moto Actions set is likely to be the one users use the most.

The twist for camera and chop for flashlight gestures may sound gimmicky, but I did use them a lot. Additionally, the fingerprint sensor gestures are also useful, as they let you get rid of the on-screen navigation keys and maximize your available screen space.

Price, specifications, features compared. This lets you quickly check for notifications, read into them or respond, all without unlocking the phone. While a lot of people criticize Motorola for not having a notification light on its newer phones, this is a much more useful implementation that effectively does away with the need for a notification light at all.

Moto Voice is perhaps the gimmickiest of the experiences and the one I used the least, but its ability to work offline and effectively does have some utility. It works effectively to open apps, show you the weather or your schedule, and the like.

When it comes to performance, the Qualcomm Snapdragon under the hood keeps things running smoothly. Motorola first introduced its modular concept with the Moto Z back in, and continues to actively support the idea.

As mentioned, all Mods and Moto Z devices are designed to a standard specification, which enables the universal compatibility of the phones. Moto Z2 Play Review: Sub-flagship modular phone, version 2.

The range of Mods is steadily growing, and Moto has recently introduced a gamepad Mod that improves the handheld gaming experience on the Moto Z series. In India, Motorola is bundling the Turbo Power Mod with the phone at no additional cost, which adds value to the deal and gives buyers a start into the Mod ecosystem from the purchase itself.

During my time with the Moto Z2 Force, I only charged the phone once directly using the Turbo Power charger, and that too only to get an idea of how long the phone takes to charge.

However, the Turbo Power Mod changed the way I charged and used the phone. The Mod has a 3,mAh battery of its own, which can charge the Moto Z2 Force up to about 80 percent from zero. This effectively means that you get well over a full day of battery, which can get close to two full days if your usage is moderate.

Motorola launches 3 new Moto Mods in India, prices start from Rs 5, The Turbo Power Mod charges your phone at Turbo Power speed, ensuring that you get that 80 percent boost in about one hour.

Even off the charger, the phone and Mod will completely charge up in a little over an hour each, so you get the benefits of fast charging on both. This also meant that at no point in time during my use of the Moto Z2 Force did I need to be away from it while it was plugged into the charger.

Using specially developed Motorola technology, the phone has been designed so that its screen is reinforced to protect from damage during drops. On the Moto Z2 Force, the technology has been improved and continues to be guaranteed against a reasonable level of abuse.

Moto Z2 Force ShatterShield display peeling off for some users: Naturally, it was hard for us to deliberately drop the Moto Z2 Force to test the Shattershield display, but we did put it through some basic level of abuse onto the carpeted floors of our office during our review.

During my time with the phone, one evening, I had the phone placed on my lap. As I got up, the phone accidentally flew off and landed with a clattering sound a few feet away onto the hard floor.

This is the kind of crash that would have destroyed most smartphone screens, with the phone having landed perfectly on its corner. But that day, I blinked sleepily, got up unconcerned, picked up the Moto Z2 Force and went back to whatever I was doing.

Sure enough, the phone and screen worked fine. There is a small ding on the metal frame to serve as a souvenir of that day though. Not your average flagship. The Moto Z2 Force sticks to the fashion of having a dual-camera setup, and uses a combination of two megapixel sensors at the back.

The primary sensor is an RGB one, while the secondary sensor is monochrome. You also get dual-tone LED flash at both the front and the back, with a 5-megapixel front camera. The camera setup enables depth-effect shots with the rear camera, better light and information capture thanks to the monochrome sensor, and true monochrome shooting.

Good pictures in portrait mode have typically been a struggle for Moto devices, but the Moto Z2 Force takes surprisingly good portrait shots. This works with both people and objects, with the camera accurately and effectively capturing depth information to detect the foreground and background.

Pictures taken have a strong character, and objects or people in the foreground tend to pop out, as is expected from a good portrait shot. The use of an RGB plus monochrome setup also assists in low-light photography, as the monochrome sensor enables capture of more light information, with the RGB concentrating on getting color information.

This shows on the Moto Z2 Force, and low-light pictures are noticeably good. The tuning of the camera is set to take advantage of the dual-camera setup, and you see a great combination of detail and color in the pictures.

In regular lighting conditions as well, the images are excellent. While you will likely get sharper and more detailed pictures from the top camera phones such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and Apple iPhone X, the Moto Z2 Force produces pictures that pop.

The pictures are refreshingly vibrant, capturing bright colors particularly well and enhancing their visibility ever so slightly in the image to make them more defined.

The colors in images shot by the Moto Z2 Force are arguably better than anything else you can find today. I also particularly enjoyed having the option to shoot in true monochrome.

Switching to true black-and-white lets you capture much more detail, which is useful in low-light conditions. Take a look at our sample images to get an idea of what you can expect from the camera of the Moto Z2 Force.

The Moto Z2 Force sits in an awkward position as far as its credentials as a flagship smartphone are concerned. This is because between Samsung, Apple and OnePlus, the premium smartphone space is covered.

The Moto Z2 Force sits smack in the middle of these segments. Please take a careful look at the detailed specifications comparison chart below and here you will see just how these two devices stack up against one another on paper.

After that, we will look at each handset in greater depth and point out some of its pros and cons. The OnePlus 5 has a large top and bottom bezel, giving it a somewhat dated look, same as the Moto Z2 Force.

The OP5 is a well-built device that comes with cutting-edge technology under its dated Full HD display. OnePlus designed the body out of anodized aluminum and gave it a curved back that makes it easier to grip and less prone to catching fingerprint smudges.

The side bezels are small enough, but the top and bottom bezels are rather large, taking some of its inspiration from the iPhone 7. OnePlus even included a layer of ceramic over the responsive front-mounted fingerprint sensor to prevent scratches.

The OnePlus 5 carries on the tradition of using only a Full HD resolution of x pixels and its 5. This does help keep the cost down a bit, but most are willing to pay more for the QHD resolution; it is not as if the battery could not handle it.

There is no secondary display for notifications, so you must wake up your device to view any notifications. Qualcomm added the Adreno GPU to the processor for superior graphics. So many manufacturers are turning to a dual-camera arrangement these days and OnePlus decided to use that setup on the OnePlus 5 as well.

This helps in those low-light situations when no flash is desired. This camera is great for sports pictures or close-ups, depending on your preferred type of photography. The OnePlus 5 is on the right track as it includes cellular connectivity with support for 34 different frequency bands — meaning it should work on your GSM carrier — the most up-to-date Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.

You will find the lightning fast, front-mounted fingerprint scanner on the large bezel at the bottom of the OnePlus 5. The OnePlus 5 comes with Android 7. The device measures However, it may also be its most feature-laden device to date.

The design is a little dated-looking, but Moto promised three years of models could use those Moto Mods, so the design must stay similar for a while. The Z2 Force has an all-metal design with a large round camera hump on the back that doubles as a stabilizer for Moto Mods.

Personally, I think the device looks better when it is sporting a Mod, even if it is just a decorative cover. This five-layer overlay helps to keep the display from shattering when dropping. On the downside, you need to use a screen protector to avoid scratching the plastic display.

The Lenovo-owned company pulled no plugs when it came to choosing its processor and went with the best processor it had available — the Snapdragon octa-core SoC with a quad-core cluster clocked at 1.

This processor is teamed up with the Adreno GPU for terrific graphics, be it movies or gaming. Motorola wasted no time in giving the Z2 Force a dual-camera this year. The secondary camera has a monochrome sensor to capture some great black and white photos.

This is much smaller than the 3,mAh battery touted in the original Moto Z Force. You can purchase a 2,mAh Moto Mod battery and slap it on the back for more power while also taking advantage of wireless charging.

The Moto Z2 Force is a formidable device with many great qualities. However, you must be careful not to scratch its ShatterShield display — it is made from plastic, not glass.

I would remiss if I did not remind you that the Z2 Force lacks a 3. Moto does supply a dongle that plugs into the Type-C port and converts it to a traditional audio port.

The most exciting feature of the device is its ability to use Moto Mods — they can be as simple as an add-on battery or as advanced as a high-powered Hasselblad camera. While they do cost some money, they really do add a lot of value to your Moto Z2 Force.

Moto is known for providing great radios, so those that must go outside and stand on the southeast side of the porch to get a signal may want to give the Z2 Force a test ride. The phone measures in at This was a tough decision as both devices have many things in common, including looks and specifications.

It is this pricing that makes all of the difference and that is why I am selecting the OnePlus 5 as the winner of this comparison. The display size is the same across the two handsets and both use the same OLED technology, the OnePlus 5 has more RAM for multitasking, a great dual-camera setup, an impressive front-facing camera, a larger battery, Bluetooth 5.

The ShatterShield display does work, but can scratch easier than glass. Show Comments Hide Comments. There's no need to get nerd-raged up over optional accessories that aren't being forced on anyone. Or maybe you have a presentation and want to use your handset to power it do people even do that?

It works well, displaying a very projectory image onto a wall it looks best aimed at a light-colored wall or ceiling in a dark room. You can adjust the focus with a wheel on the mod's side and there's an auto-brightness option for the mod in your phone's settings.

But it's part of the versatility and individualization that modular phones can bring to the table. A projector is an option — albeit a wacky, out-of-left-field one — that no other phone gives you.

When snapped onto your phone, it pumps out loud and crisp-sounding audio: If you'd rather snap on a speaker like this than pair over Bluetooth with an external one, its price is similar to portable speakers with inferior audio quality.

The JBL mod's big advantage is that it has a built-in battery, so it won't drain your phone's battery while it's playing music or showing a movie though, unlike the power packs, you can't use it to charge your phone.

The speaker has a kickstand on the back too: That's handy for watching videos, but less ideal if you're pumping out tunes, since it angles the speakers downward, so the vibrations will bounce off of whatever surface the phone is sitting on top of.

The audio sounds best with the speakers aimed directly towards your face, but you'll have to either hold it or lean it against something else to do that.

We love the idea and implementation of the Moto Z's modularity. While we're only completely smitten with the power packs and Style Shells at launch, this is a starting point for what could grow into a large collection of accessories for this flagship.

And in the meantime, even if you don't have any interest in the speaker or projector, you still have the ultra-useful battery pack, which just about anyone can find use for, along with the cosmetic Style Shells: We'll eventually see modular phones that let you upgrade the technical stuff, like processor, RAM, storage, internal battery, display panel and so on see Google's Project Ara.

That isn't what the Moto Z is about. But the simplicity, versatility and long-term potential of Lenovo's snap-on approach is a breath of fresh air in a smartphone industry full of minor iterations paired with over-the-top hyperbole.

Here's something that's truly different, with at least one incredibly useful accessory. Those are the Moto Mods, but what about the phones themselves? First, the two are nearly identical, with a few key differences:.

The Moto Z is the standard flagship, the one that will launch not just on Verizon, but also in an unlocked version and likely on other carriers starting in September, after a period of Big Red exclusivity.

It's razor-thin, with a very good camera and good battery life. Motorola tells us that the Moto Z Force, meanwhile, is going to remain a "Droid Edition" Verizon exclusive throughout its lifespan — though it does ship unlocked, so you could still buy it at full retail price from VZW and pop in a SIM to use it on other carriers.

The Z Force also differs in that it's 35 percent thicker and 20 percent heavier than the standard Z, thanks to its 35 percent bigger battery. It also adds a better camera and "shatter-proof" display like last year's Droid Turbo 2.

Today, for example, I've had it off the charger for 12 hours, including some browsing and music streaming, and it's still at 70 percent. That's with pretty light use and plenty of standby time, mind you, but I rarely get those kinds of numbers from other flagships, no matter how light the workload.

Use the Moto Z Force along with the battery pack mod, and you have a phone with a flippin' 5, mAh battery. That's 59 percent more capacity than the Galaxy S7 edge, 91 percent more than the HTC 10 and percent more than the iPhone 6s Plus.

Both phones scored well in our standard battery benchmark. Streaming video over Wi-Fi with displays set at an absolute brightness measured by a lux meter, the Moto Z dropped 10 percent per hour, and the Moto Z Force dropped just 8 percent per hour.

The phones on their own already give you some of the best battery life among current flagships; add that extra 2, mAh from a battery mod and you have the battery beast so many people say they want.

The phones themselves are beautiful metallic affairs Motorola says they're made of both stainless steel and aluminum. The standard Moto Z, sans mods, feels incredibly light and thin in hand. The Force still isn't bulky or heavy, but it does lose that so light and thin it almost feels like a toy quality that the standard Z has.

Displays look as eye-popping as you'd expect from a 5. White balance is good, brightness is solid, colors are rich and you can choose from both realistic and vibrant modes in settings and that p resolution has everything looking as crisp as can be.

Performance is also just about everything you could ask for, with 4 GB of RAM and Qualcomm's early high-end chip, the Snapdragon, inside. Expect zippy multitasking and butter-smooth performance throughout.

Both cameras are very good. Here are some unedited sample shots with HDR off to show the minor difference between the two:. In all of these settings, the standard Moto Z holds its own and only trails slightly — if at all.

The Force lights the poorly-lit shot a hair better, and its color reproduction in the flash shot is slightly more accurate. But if camera is the only reason you're considering paying extra for the Force, we think you'll be just fine with the standard Moto Z Droid.

The Moto Z Play's main camera is a mixed bag, but not for the reasons you'd expect. In terms of pure resolution, the megapixel sensor here sits somewhere between the Moto Z's megapixel camera and the Z Force's much better megapixel shooter.

In other words, the Z Play is technically capable of capturing a little more photographic nuance than the bog-standard Moto Z, but lags behind it when it comes to low-light performance.

The Z Play's camera also lacks optical image stabilization, making it slightly more susceptible to blurry edges and obscured faces, especially when it's dark. So yes, your poorly lit bar photos won't turn out great.

Even so, the Z Play doesn't completely drop the ball, and -- perhaps more important -- it's capable of producing some really attractive shots when the lights come back up.

Colors seem accurately represented though you might sometimes see whites turn a little blue, and there was often plenty of detail to gawk at. The very act of snapping photos is quick too, with basically zero lag before taking a new shot.

I've tested plenty of faster, all-around better smartphone cameras this year, but the Moto Z Play's is nonetheless remarkable in two ways. First, it's a little more than half the price of those photographically superior phones.

More important, the gap between the camera in this mid-range phone and the cameras in the flagship Moto Z's can be surprisingly small. The Moto Z Force's more advanced setup has the clear edge, but under the right conditions it's easy to get similar results out of all three Z phones.

Meanwhile, the 5-megapixel front-facing camera is perfectly adequate, packing a wide-angle lens for squeezing more friends into selfies, and video footage came out clean, if a little unremarkable.

All told, Motorola has a potent little photographic package here, though sticklers for premium quality will want to look elsewhere. All right, quick recap: I can already tell some people's eyes are glazing over because that chipset's model number doesn't start with an "8," but I'm here to tell you the is a capable little slab of silicon.

When it comes to thumbing through open apps, swiping through menus and the rest of the day-to-day actions one doesn't pay that much attention to, the Z Play moves like a flagship phone: For people who ultimately don't ask much of their smartphones, the Moto Z Play has more than enough power to keep everything moving at a more than reasonable pace.

Things can change pretty quickly when you fire up some graphically intensive games, though. That's when the occasional sluggishness can set in. Again, that's not a shocker or anything: Mid-range phones are getting better all the time, but most of the not-quite-high-end phones we've played with this year act the same way.

There is, however, one big upside to this merely average performance: The Moto Z Play's battery life is absolutely killer. Motorola claims that the phone can run for up to 50 hours on a single charge, and I'll be damned if that wasn't my experience over two weeks of testing.

Consider my usual workflow: There's a lot of Slack messages and emails flying around, not to mention a spot of gaming and some podcasts here and there.

On typical days the Moto Z Play would stick around for about 45 full hours before needing a recharge. That's not two workdays, but nearly two full rotations of the earth.

Hell, with Wi-Fi on and connected, I saw the Z Play creep just a little past the advertised 50 hours over a quiet weekend. Obviously, those figures would tank if I spent more than a little time playing Hearthstone or bingeing on YouTube videos, but there's a certain sort of liberation to be found when you don't have to constantly fret about your phone living or dying.

You probably don't need me to tell you this, but you can get a lot of phone for not much money. The upstarts behind the OnePlus 3 should be proud: As such, it's perhaps the best alternate for a device like the Moto Z Play -- it packs an incredibly fast Snapdragon chipset, a superior camera and a barely modified version of Android into a sleek metal body.

And if you're on the hunt for even better value, you might want to consider Motorola's Moto G4 Plus. Ah, but the Z Play has an edge The Moto Z Play works and works well with the full range of Motorola's Moto Mods, so the functionality you get out of the box is far from the functionality you'll have in six months, or a year.

If this appeals to you, know that there's very little else out there that can satisfy this modular itch. LG's G5 was the first major flagship phone that leaned into the idea of a modular body, and it certainly deserves props for its chutzpah.

While its ecosystem of "Friendly" accessories is broader than what the Moto Z's have access to, these add-ons are undeniably less elegant. The extra horsepower afforded by the Snapdragon chipset is nice, but Motorola's approach to modular design is by far the best.

It can be hard to get worked up about devices that don't aspire to be the greatest thing you'll ever slide into a pocket, but even so: The Moto Z Play won me over. Its occasional lack of horsepower can be frustrating especially if you're into gaming, but Motorola deserves credit for building a phone that feels like so much more than the sum of its parts.

It's not perfect, it's not waterproof and it's not flashy. What it is, however, is "there for you" because of its tremendous battery life.
